Oil in intercooler - stuffed turbo?

So I chucked it all back together and swapped out the afm, went for a quick drive and I noticed as i pulled in back home that I DO have a flashing CEL, if only I could read it..

the oil is coming from the breather pipes in your turbo intake. It is quite normal to see some oil in your intercooler and it will become excessive if the oil level in the sump is too high or your bores or turbo are worn. Per other comments this is not related to the cel.

On your ECU a flashing cel is specific to a misfire code. Usually a faulty coil pack or plug will trigger this . I have seen faulty injectors also trigger a flashing cel. The ecu will assume a misfire if the injector drops out of sync with the crank sensor. On one car this was caused by a connector plug on an injector not being pushed fully home after a rebuild. The stored code on the ecu will isolate this for you once you gain access. Drop me a pm if you need any help. Cheers .Alistair

OBD2 scanner came in the mail today, so just finished checking out the codes. Said there was 4 old ones and one new one, "p0500, p1518, p1590, p0136 and finally p0350." Assuming p0350 is the newest one, this makes a lot of sense. P0350 - Ignition Coil Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction. What should I be checking to remedy this CEL, perhaps one or more were duds? they came off a 2001 V7 with 115ks on the clock. I may not be the greatest DIYer but they all felt in place correctly etc.

AVCS Heads are 03+ aren\'t they? BL/V8?

P0350 - Either Plug/Coil Fault.

Check the condition of your Plugs, Gaps etc.

Then test Spark at all 4 Cylinders, weak or dis-coloured Spark could mean a fried Coil Pack

I basically only swapped the coil packs, no cleaning or anything, should I try cleaning the connections on the coil packs first? What should i clean them with if so. I also have my 3 old coil packs that worked fine and the 1 stuffed one I could try fix the situation with.

Contact Cleaner, but it probably wont help. Check your Spark as above, then start swapping in known working Coil Packs.

In the first instance, given there are historical codes stored for multiple sensors and P0350 has now appeared (which in my experience is usually the code the ECU throws when it cannot attribute a misfire condition to a specific coil pack), I would recommend you check your engine harness earths (specifically the harness earthing bolt to the top of the passenger side inlet manifold) before you start swapping coil packs around.

Swapped over the 2 passenger side coils, found a bit of oil on the front left.. connector? missfire/cel issues gone, so will swap them back over again tomorrow. Will know in a few days whether the cars actually using oil or not. Also this huge cable tie, does that need to be replaced after checking the plug?

  • 2 weeks later...

Opened the main loom plug today and did not see any oil in there, so hopefully all good. Seems that one of the new coils are also faulty, swapped some around (again) to get rid of more misfire issues (same as what it\'s had for 2 years), not the new bad, CEL one. So just a matter of time before I know if it\'s good or not now.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
