Just a two questions that I would like to find out more about.

First, what is the power split in the awd system. I have heard things like its 90-10, 70-30, 60-40, 50-50, but nothing conclusive. Also does it use a viscous limited slip differential?

I have done a bit of research and narrowed down that my car has either an ej20h or an ej20r

I have looked at the engine bay of both and I can't spot any differences and I'm the man at 'Wheres Wally'. Anyone know - and what are the main differences?

is it a manual or an auto(the differ as to the percentage)

auto is 90 front 10 rear normal and then adjusts to 50 50

it is an electronic clutch pack

manual is 50 50 and yes a viscous couple

Most autos use a wet clutch pack that sends power to the rear wheels. Giving a theoretical split of 90-10 up to 50-50 when the clutch pack fully locks.

VDC autos and some from Turbo Foresters and H6 Legacys use a VTD center diff which is geared to give a 35-65 split. It also has a wet clutch pack that can lock the diff to 50-50. Models with this transmission have a different shaped rear housing and no FWD fuse as the rear wheels can never be disconnected from the front, there is a solid link.

Most manual transmissions use a 50-50 torque split. Theres simply a limited slip diff of some description in the middle that locks up when the fronts or rears lose traction.

As far as i can tell DCCD Boxes use a system similar to that in the VTD autos except the driver can choose the power distribution from 35-65 to fully locked. (not certain on this one as ive never played with it)

Mine is a manual, so if the front looses traction - the power will all be sent to the back and vice versa?

If your car is your user name 1994 Legacy Rs then it will be ej20h. Only the RSB and GTB have the ej20r and the extra 20 or so kw.

So how does it gain the extra 20kw? Higher boost?

There's a few things better heads, better ECU, yellow tops, bigger turbo's etc
