Car smokes blue after warming up

Recommended Posts

Hi i have a 2000 v6 wrx ra and just wondering if anyone has any ideas why it smokes blue after warming up then rev abit and smoke comes out. Turn the car off turn it back on then rev and goes away. Anyone have any ideas?? Its a v7 sti block with all the v6 stuff bolted on to it plus a new turbo and front mount. Engine has only done 3500ks and oil is still on full... Hasnt had a proper tune so could it be to much fuel?? Cheers

Blue is oil.

Perhaps the turbo shaft seal is shagged and it's oozing into the downpipe, or it has something horribly bad wrong with the motor like cracked ring land.

Could be something in the head too, like leaking valve stem seals. But there's only so many ways that oil can get into a place where it can get burnt.

Hrmmm my warranty is just about out too. Only till November :-/ but why is it only doing it for max 5 minutes of the day?? i turn it off then back on after i warm it up. Gives one puff then nothing for the rest of the day

I'm going with turbo seals, or blocked/kinked oil drain on turbo.

I've seen this before, when the car is left to sit the oil in the turbo oil feed oozes out of the turbine side of the core (because the turbo is on a slight backwards lean) and pools in the turbine housing and downpipe.

Then you start the car up, nothing happens for a little while then the exhaust gets hot enough to burn the oil, you get a bit of a puff of smoke, it burns the oil off, you continue on your way. It's probably slightly leaking oil all the time but it'll be an insignificant amount that is immediately burnt off when the exhaust is hot.

A small amount of oil makes a lot of smoke when it's soaked into a turbine housing.

Thanks for that. Will check the oil drain tonight. I thought it would be something small like this but didnt want to ignore it just incase

Sounds a lot like leaking oil seal but if it is you will have bigger turbo issues. Takes a while to heat the oil in the turbine housing as boon said I have exp. Check intake pipe and see if you have any blowby as well.

Ok will check tonight. Cant find any kinked hoses. Found a t joint ventilating to atmosphere. Anyone know what it is?? It leads to the sensore at the bottom

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
