Quick Confirmation on a 2 things!

hi, I have a 96' GTB legacy wagon and has just had the engine light come on, and comes up as code 23 ( Air Flow Sensor ) im getting a new sensor tomorrow.

just need confirmation on a few symptoms my subie has.

* it wont rev past 4500 Rpm, is it in a Limp mode?

* when i start it up it revs high then really low, i disconnected the battery this morning for about half an hour and tried to start it now it just revs high then stalls, is this because of the air flow sensor?

sounds about right. try unpluging the AFM... it will run rough but maybe a bit better than with it.

Yeah just tried that, same thing, ill just wait on the new AFM

I thoought if you unplugged the AFM it should stall because its sensing 'zero air in'?

When i replaced my 3rd gen one it had a really surgy idle with it removed but with a completely stuffed afm it would stall instantly. Maybe they have some form of guestimation tables in limp mode when it senses an open circuit for this?

if nothing changes when you unplug the AFM, that usually tells you the afm isnt working in the first place ie dead

unplug a good working AFM will cause rough running / symptoms like described here, it shouldn't stall all together

It will run without an AFM... it probably goes off the throttle position sensor.
