2012 WRX GearBox Problems.....

Ughhhh...

Alrighty, my 2012 WRX which has had a engine rebuild under warranty before I purchased it and had the clutch replaced last year is having some... Issues.

This has happened 3 times in the 1.5 months I've owned the vehicle, mainly when changing down gear to slow down as soon as I hit neutral to get into the gear, all the gears lock up. I cant get it into any gear whatever I try, I have to turn the car off and put it in gear then start it for the gears to free up. And also when slowing down sometimes changing into mainly 2nd and 1st ill feel the clutch shuddering under my foot and then there will be a whinning noise and the gear will lock up and I have to try again to get it in.

I took it to winger for its first service after the rebuild and they had a look and inspected everything they could without pulling stuff out and said basically they cant do much without it happening to them on a test drive or me demonstraiting it to them..

I need Winger to do the work to be under warranty (as far as I understand) but if I give them my car and say pull out the Gbox and they find nothing, that bills just going to be on me?..

Just curious if anyone has an idea of what it could be, synchros? Or another shop I could go to that do warranty work...

Sounds like clutch drag, clutch is still semi engaged and locking you out of shifting.

I started to think it was that.. untill the gearbox shat itself... while im in palmy for flatnats.. had to get it towed to the local subaru dealer and theyre gunna look at it monday meanwhile I have to find a way back to Auckland

Oh bugger sorry to hear that fella but I at least you will get the problem sorted once and for all and under warranty too.......

Sooo... the local subaru dealer in palmy looked at the car today and are saying its a suspected loose flywheel.... but its going to be proccess of elimination... if fixing that doesnt work they're gunna look into the gearbox. Hopefully its all related to the problems I've been having and it gets all fixed at once.

Update, Armstrongs Subaru apparently took responsibility for a half assed job on the clutch install.

Subaru NZ made them replace the clutch plate and flywheel bolts to prevent future issues.

Expect the car to be back up in Aucks sometime early next week at no charge to me .... hopefuly no more issues from now
