2004 3.0r stupid questions

Had this car almost a year now and have the following minor issues:

ECO Button next to handbrake is stuck down and came like this.. am guessing this does effect anything as I can manually put it into sport mode with the auto gear lever?

Stereo has whine that have had two auto electricians look at and they cant fix any ideas. Its the mcintosh system with amp and sub.

Apart from the above no issues and goes like the clappers looking at getting a retune ecu flash any people doing these in NZ?

Stereos bound to be a bad earth somewhere. Amp? Fuel pump? Stereo?

Does the stereo only whine on the radio setting and goes away after 10 mins of driving or so??

I have the same stereo with this problem so would interested to know if someone else is having a similar issue.

Again, auto-electrician couldn't find the problem and that was after I checked everything I could think of.

Yes only on radio same issue. Gone to two auto electrians and was thinking of replacing all the setup but proved to expensive.. Nice ride by the way

Thanks! Yeah, so same problem then. I have pulled it all out, re-earthed the unit, alternator is giving healthy numbers so really can't work out where the issue is.

Plugs straight into the back, no messing around - much better than forking out some $600+ for a new fascia, re-wiring the front door speakers and removing the amp under the passenger seat etc etc.

Went to see Bindons. Didn't pay them to actually pull it apart, just showed them the issue to see if they had an idea and all I saw was potential for a big bill for a problem

that as annoying as it is... isn't annoying enough for a big bill.

Will have to have a yarn to Autotech then.

Yeah that's the fix I am going with. Tried suppressor and usual spots for ground loop noise but to no avail. Have you got it tuned yet with an ecu reflash? Am looking at doing this next.

Nah haven't bothered. I bought it purely as a daily with no intention to spend money on it, plenty quick as it is but have heard people get some good results from the reflash.

Reflash generally means better on gas. Bindons are ****. Ive got a couple of suppressors even think i know where they are if you want one let me know.

Sounds like someone has had a f*ck around in the centre console.

Mine was stuck in Eco mode and it was because the switch was disconnected, pull the whole trim around the gear lever and check if it's actually plugged in.

Stereo whine, especially if it changes with revs, is almost always a ground loop caused by a bad ground somewhere in the system. Sometimes, unfortunately, it's because a ground has come loose and it has grounded through a path it never should have, usually the RCAs (or whatever signal cable the Mcintosh uses) and burnt out the track on the PCB somewhere.

My particular whine/hum isn't affected by revs and fades away after 5 mins or so but is really loud when you first turn the radio on.

I'm definitely all for the ground loop issue but its just all a bit weird...

A good ECU reflash will give you better economy if you drive it softly, but will give you better low down torque and a much smoother automatic gear shift.
