V7 STI blowing blue smoke, powerless - no boost, no Bov sound too

Hi there,

I bought a v7 Sti and when I was driving it home and I blew something, as it lost boost and blew a lot of smoke. First thought was I blew the turbo and when I took the turbo off there was heaps of oil in the turbo and intercooler so I replaced the turbo with a VF30 that I bought off this forum and now its doing the same thing. No improvement at all, I'm hoping the turbo I got off this forum is also a faulty turbo because I don't want to think it's my engine as it was only replaced a few months ago.. Anyone know how I can diagnose the problem? I believe it idles fine and drives fine just really powerless, maximum boost is 9 psi and that's after a long time on the accelerator. Any help or advice is appreciated

Sounds dropped cylinder-y maybe, possibly, get a compression test done maybe?

Symptoms (of which you haven't given a heap) suggest maybe a holed piston / cracked ringland, or simply a fcked turbo

How do the plugs look, that will give you a quick indication on if you've munted something proper

Save yourself a lot of time and money and take it to a mechanic. Could be a number of different things, all of them expensive to fix I am betting...

so wasting money on things that are not the problem will make a **** situation worse.

Can I still do a compression check without the turbo and intercooler on the engine?

How far have you driven on the replacement turbo ?

Is it running on 4 cylinders . If u cant tell then anything else is beyond you

So managed to do a compression check on all four cylinders, got compression in 1,3 and 4 but didn't get any compression in 2. If someone could tell me what could have happened that would be greatly appreciated? So new motor or get this one fixed?

Go to a mechanic

Random guesswork of most likely cause is excess knock has cracked or holed a piston or just destroyed the ringland (same thing more or less)

Either too much boost, a ****ty tune, running it on bad fuel, fuel pump giving up.... a dodgy injector who knows why it blew until someone actually diagnoses it

Until it's apart you won't know if it's fixable, damage may be unrepairable - but get it diagnosed by an expert first.

bugger man! that sounds like it will be a costly repair if you have no compression... just take it to a mechanic and get them to go over what could be the issue, what part of the country are you in and we could recommend a few places you could go to get a quote or even some advice

Yea i'm just planning on getting the one side rebuilt, i'm in wellington but I've already found a mechanic. Thanks anyway though mate!
