Outback questions

Hi guys. Planning to let go my 05 legacy and upgrade to a 3.0 outback.

Few questions:

I have spent $$$$ for struts and springs for the legacy. Will the struts be interchangeable with an outback? Does the spring dictate the height?

I have read a lot of members here able to tune a legacy 3.0r. Will that be the same case for an outback 3.0

Tyres wise what will be your recommendation for a oem wheel 17 outback wheel?

Tuning really is case by case as there are heaps of different ECU's that differ ever so mildly, typically the newer the better. Considering there is never any separation between the wagon and sedan models, or outbacks listed, i'd say with a grain of salt it'll match the equivalent 3.0r model.

In saying that though, there are very few 3.0r defs in the standard def release software anyway so chances are you'll have to go out of your way to get them.

Thats the official supported ecu list, obviously there are alot of other exu's out there that are supported but haven't been added to that list.

ADIKT has an outback that has been lowered, I think he said he was using legacy springs and struts. Maybe PM him to find out what he did.

If you were looking for more power you could always go for an Outback XT which has a 2.5 turbo.

Correct - I used legacy adjustables with legacy bump stops - they bolt straight in

I now have minimal travel between the rear bumpstops and rear upper control arms though - only way to get more travel is to change a billion parts, unfortunately its not as easy as 'just taking the subframe spacers out', read here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/info-ob-gt-suspension-geometry-removing-spacer-180579.html

The factory outback struts are longer than the factory legacy struts - so you will get a drop regardless

But can i use legacy stuts on an outback with oem springs?

Just bought new bilstein struts 12 months ago and if possible wanting to keep it.

Yes you can. But it will drop the outback ride height an inch or so

@adikt love that low outback but i reckon wont look good on a pre-facelift outback? also do you have wof concerns when you swapped out the struts?

I reckon it'll look even better. Pre facelift outbacks look a bit tougher in general.

@adikt the low outback looks very stealth. I have thought about doing my wagon but the ground clearance comes in handy off the tarmac.

I assume you are referring to tyres, if so then yes.

Pretty sure I saw this one out Karori, on the way to Makara today. Same front bumper extensions and wheels. Looks the business in the flesh
