VF31 On a 97 BG Legacy.....What the?

Ok so I got the brand new replacement turbo that the warranty guys paid for fitted to my Legacy today, now when I checked what model it was it turns out its a VF31, after a bit of research I found out it's the primary one for the B4 legacy's, which I thought was just fine as it cant hurt having something more modern in it, after taking it out for a really good thrash (poor baby :'() I can say that I'm almost 90% sure it doesn't go as well on lower revs, but on the other hand all VOD is completely gone! I kind of wonder if my original primary turbo had some kind of over boosting issue because man did it boost when compared to this new VF31, before the secondary kicks in it seems somewhat underpowered compared to previous, the factory bov doesn't even make any noise now when before it would happily make noise all day.

I'm just a tad pissed as I was expecting something better rather than worse! Is this something to be expected or should I be taking it back to the guy who done the change over and asking q's? It's doing my head in!!!!

I don't think a VF31 would be from a BE/BH - my BH (rev D) GTB has VF33 primary and VF32 secondary iirc, and I think pre-facelift was VF26/27.

Hmmm I got the info from a past forum on here, do you have any idea what it's from?

Yeah mate Go back & ask some Q's, I think i seen it up on a hoist yesterday when i drove past a garage, do you know what model turbo was removed?, Was it replaced with a new unit or second hand, As there is a huge selection of second hand ones in town,

Hey, yeah you would have seen it lol, I'm unsure what model was on it before will find out monday but the replacement was a genuine Subby brand spanker straight out of the box from japan (very shiny) it's just weird as after clocking up a couple Km's on it seems to be going better, perhaps there's a run in period?? power is more consistent throughout the rev range but just seems so much smoother and seems more drivable around town etc and as I mentioned vod is almost non existent now, so its a bit of a tricky one, less abrupt and fun low end power but better and smoother top end, I'm going to borrow a mates boost gauge tonight and see just what she's up to, apparently primary is 10psi and 15psi secondary? Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Thanks guys!

Just having a quick google I found one sold on trademe advertised as being from a '98 GTB, mine is definitely VF33/32 - is it possible autos got a different primary turbo for some reason?

VF31's were also available AFIAK.

The list for primary turbo's is a long one as it would seem.

VF13, VF16, VF18, VF20, VF26, VF31 and VF33

The VF20's and VF31's are odd ones as fas as i know. VF20's have been found on BG5C GTB's. and go with the VF19 secondary. And i think the VF31's were swapped with VF33's, but i have no proof to back that up, would need a BE/BH expert to pipe up. I may also be mixing up VF32 and 33... don't know enough about gen 3's...

I only just found out about the VF16/17 combo, and VF20's the other day... i wouldn't have believed it if i didn't see it with my own eyes.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
