New water-air core

BLSTIC

Recommended Posts

Talking about the front mounted intercoolers got me thinking about why I would actually want one. The cooling performance of a water-air cooler in a stop-start environment is second to none (ok maybe a front mount with thermo-fans and an insulated intercooler-throtte pipe), so the reason would have to be airflow.

So I'm thinking about modifying a water-air core for higher flow.

Has anyone done this?

Haven't done it, but researched extensively.

Two Legacy heat exchangers added together to make one twice the size, plus high flow pump or wire yours to run at full.

Will be a restriction an 350hp. These mods are more of the support kind rather than power adders and ultimately you'll need to modify the intercooler tank to increase flow.

Don't care about pics, but cars built for something other than straight lines are more relevant. This is more due to the fact that speedway/circuit/rally guys don't modify their bonnets, and need to work perfectly long term than any cooling/flow issue.

That said in nz apparently holes in bonnets are pretty legal. So some big flat shiny thing hanging out of the bonnet probably isn't an issue, as long as it ends up lower than the front bonnet line from the drivers seat.

If we are talking about a Gen 1 Legacy system then yes the pre throttle body tank, Modify it in the sense that the turbo to intercooler pipe is Half a shitty plastic pipe (with BOV outlet) and half cast into the tank itself, you could increase the flow buy making up a Y pipe arrangement or a larger single inlet.

Like what catsoup is making

Yeah but thats only half of the pipe (and issue) you could buy a samco pipe that replaces the same above pipe since the early WRX

I've got one on my Legacy, ultimately it's the tank inlet thats the issue.

Unless you dyno it before or after, i couldnt say.

When you remove the standard pipe and compare the two its a much larger internal diameter so there must be a gain.

When i put mine on it seemed to boost a bit earlier.

I've got a friend who has one for sale, its blue if that suits? i'll PM him to see if he still has it.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
