Oil Temp Gauge

So i hooked up a oil pressure and temp gauge yesterday.

Pressure seems to work ...Cranks upto 90 or so on start up then warms up and goes down to 80 odd and when car is idling at lights etc about 40 and goes upagain to 80-90 when driving..

This would be right would it not??

Now the way iv done it is run a line from the rear oil bung in the gallery and run a bradied line with a tpiece on the far end and mounted the pressure sender and temp sensor...

Now the temp gauge isnt working.. Is this because theres no circut to run the oil past and read temp???

Should i be placing the temp sensor in the sandwich plate for my oil cooler (when i mount it )

OR

should it be workign in its place now...

Anyone set it up like me and had it work or not work??

Thanks

Brad

The temp sender needs to be able to earth to the block. May be running into the issue by having it remotely mounted. Use a multimeter to check between the base of the temp sender and the block for a nice clean connection.

Although, if your pressure sender is working and located in the same spot, you'd guess that they'd both work.

Not an additional earth connection as such. Just a straight physical connection due to them generally being mounted to the block. The guage is essentially a voltmeter and it measures between its own 12v feed and the cars ground via the sender unit bolted in the block. The sender changes resistance as the temp changes, therefore changing the voltage across it.

So for it all to work, there must be a clean, direct connection between the sender and the car's earth. Generally this happens via the block, but now you must make sure it still has it even though its remotely mounted.

But if you have all this connected then its probably something else anyway. Check the resistance across the sender unit if you heat it up in some boiling water or something like that. Make sure it changes as it heats up.

Remember it won't read a reading right away, it can take 10 mins or more for the oil to heat up to such a temperature that it registers on a gauge.

should heat up by the time i drive to hamilton right though ;) lol

so in theory it can work remote mounted like that???

i would of thought you would need oil flowing past the sensor. so that the temp changes instantly, not just when it eventualy makes it to the end of your remote line. but then i have never installed one myself either.

Now you raise the point, thats what I thought when installing mine. So the pressure sensor for my gauge and for the dash are both remotely mounted, and the temp sensor is directly mounted to the block to give me the temp of the oil going into the bearings.

yea seems logical to me ;D

So i should tkae the temp sensor and t piece off rmeote line...Leave the pressure sender there..

And put temp sensor on the sandwich plate for my oil cooler remote filter..

Come to think of it aftermounting i would of thought itd need oil flowing past 2.

yea bro correct :)

wheres the best place for the temp sensor... I have seen some temp sensors replace the sump bolt.

yea oil pan plug, but every time you change the black blood you end up twisting the wire leads of the sensor

Handy hint is slap some male/female spade clips on and disconnects it each time you change the blood

Get another insert for the oil pressure switch. I'm pretty sure its the same thread as a sump plug and its predrilled and tapped with a 1/8 NPT thread.

yup buy one 1/8NPT female threading one to insert the temp sender in.

Subaru part number 11024AA210 eeh i think thats the one, im not sure

Yup kind of can, m8 has done it, well me and him but I was pissed bit more to it to,

removed factory oil pressure sender we had a T-adaptor, remote oil pressure sender connects to the oil pressure sender something something can’t remember what we (I) did lol

I got it running after 2 boxes of loin piss (red) and some spliff's (don’t judge me that’s anal) but will call him over and have look see what I did, was a mess im sure

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
