V3 STi forged

GTB pistons are not forged as noted earlier in the 96/97 models

All pistons from factory are either A or B sizing on STD size

Over size pistons (genuine) are not graded like STD size

thanks ichi.......but look back up this post a little at those pics of the undersides of those pistons.....they are supposedly out of a V3 sti (forged right?)......but they have casting marks?

Agree, deffinitely Cast pistons picture here not forged. The Version 3 STI forged ones I have seen had a smooth underside rather than the cross hatching pattern from the mould.

Odds are that a V3 engine dismantled nowdays isn't a VIRGIN strip down

If these are out of a V3 Sti then it's been rebuilt with cast pistons or had a non Sti engine/short block put in at some stage

forgies will have HF-1 / HF-2 or HF-3 emboossed into the underside of the piston

They are CAST, you can see the moulds they came out of !!

I stand corrected :-[, I thought because they came out of v3 sti that thats what forged looked like.

These are out of an EJ20R, 87000kms. Engine builder said they were most definately cast.

Also attached a pic of my big end bearings for interests sake. Its hard to believe I was still driving around thinking I had piston slap with the state of those bearings. It never stopped, in fact I didn't notice any loss in performance just a slight knock when cold, only discovered it when I had the head gaskets done due to an overheat.

yes definitely cast Tree..........what were they doing in a V3 sti?..........could it have been repowered with a non STI motor.....or do STIs run cast pistons from the factory?
