What cleaner should I use to clean the MAF?

/quote]

Try CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner.

And then go and buy a new AFM. Subaru AFM's are self cleaning.

My MAFs self-cleaned themselves to a sooty carbon black colour. The Cleaner turned them into a purty shiny metal colour ;D

boostin: why do you not recommend cleaning the MAF? I googled it just before, quite a bit came up on subie owners using a special MAF cleaning spray. Self cleaning how haha? the pics showed layers of crap over the temp sensor bit?

the newer crop (anything 98 onwards I believe) are very sensitive, they are the hotwire/self cleaning types (especially on BT/GTB BH/BE's onwards). These dont like dirt/liquids etc touching them. They are alos very sensitve to vibrations (hence why poddies killem)...

I opened mine up not knowing what I was doing, ripped that plastic cover off, removed the brass seal plate thing, saw there was nothing I could do on the circuit board, taped it back on, now its never run better :D

when you turn the key off, the wire in the afm heats up (hot wire) and burns the crap off it.

ah interesting, so that wire bit is responsible for measuring the quantity of air coming through, correct? Which cleans itself, but what about the needle bit that measures air temperature? dirty stuff builds up on that as i saw on the pics, so should that be cleaned?

the wire bit? as in the mesh? no, it doesnt clean itself. the needle bit? yes. it cleans itself

Yep, that's the air temp bulb. Having dirt on that doesn't matter, as the air temp doesn't change rapidly.

Is this the one just after the air box? I had a look at AFM when I changed my plugs and it looked different....

Yup, it does, cos it's an entirely different unit.

Now that I've just had a look at the engine, that picture is of that black box on the side of the throttle body, right? So that's the air temp thing which self-cleans, so the AFM doesn't need cleaning or would it be better to give it some light sprays of that cleaning agent?

What??

The black box on the side of the throttle is the throttle position sensor.

The air temp sensor is inside the air flow meter and is not self cleaning.

The air flow meter hot wire is the thing that senses the air flow, and is self cleaning.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
