Reinstalling TMIC (Bg5)

Hey any tips for reinstalling the intercooler on a BG5?? Apart from being patient? Im having a bit of trouble and dont really want to risk bending more fins.

hey. to start take the right side I/C bracket off(its attach to the intake manifold with 2 bolts) set up all hose clamps so you can access them easier. loosen the hose clamps off the R/H I/C pipe

now put I/C pipe onto primary turbo (R/H) then intake manifold use a flat head screw driver to help get this on and then line up the secondary and done..

i,ve done mine about 10 time and this is the easiest way i,ve found.

oil the plastic intake pipes, helps heeeeaaaaps.

I have a similar way to akaynlsn but I put the turbo pipes on the intercooler first (but don't tighten them up heaps because you may need to rotate to line them up with the turbos. then get a long 20cm or more flat head screwdriver and lots of wriggle and leverage to get the secondary one on then before you tighten it up line the primary up. With out the passenger side bracket on I can get my hand under the intercooler to get it on but lose a bit of knuckle skin.

Leave the plastic pipes on the intercooler.

Lube all pipes etc with oil or a light grease.

Loosen the primary pipe so it can move a bit on the intercooler.

Slip the cooler down so the secondary pipe and throttle body hose pop into place.

While doing that, align the primary pipe.

Push down on cooler to pop pipe onto primary.

Tighten all hose clips, not forgetting both ends of the primary pipe.

Refit bracket to primary side of intercooler. Bolt down intercooler.

Refit primary BOV hose.

Heat up the plastic pipes, especially the primary one.. they tend to shrink, and if you force them they will snap if brittle (done that before..$90 for a new one!). Other than that use lost of lube and follow the others instructions.. plenty of wiggling but it'll get there!
