Are secondhand seatbelts legal?

Different coloured belts, one belt longer than the other lol. Had that on some prevous cars I had brought.

I have always used 2nd hand belts if one fails on a wof.

if you get failed on a WOF you are ment to replace with New belts and prove they are new, just check ya belts befor a warrent and if they are in need of replacement do it before ya check

Your supposed to send them away and they send you new ones back but just goto a wrecker. As long as that belt is ok should be sweet.

The reason I ask is that we have a custy here who is a complete prick and its failed on damage to the left front belt. A new one is $1400 and 6 weeks ex Japan. Gotta come sea freight cos of the pretensioner.

What car is it for? I have a front left belt from my spec c. Minimal use

It's real simple really:

When they fail you on a belt, just tell them "Damn, i just replaced the original with this one from the wreckers...ok, i'll take it home and fit the original back in".

Then, just get a 2nd hand one fitted and your all good, cause they can't knock back an 'original' one if it's up to spec...

I failed a WOF recently on just the driver side seat belt, the dude at VTNZ told me to go out and get a second hand one....

I took it back with the second hand belt, put it in there and they passed me, so illegal it might be, regulated / enforced obliviously not

NOTE: Belt was out of a car that blew and engine so in know good condition (in fact was only 3 months according to receipt)

$1400 is robbery plain and simple. There is no way that the item is worth anything like that. Unfortunately we have this all too common problem where suppliers and manufacturers know that if we want a particular item we have little choice but to buy it from them at what ever price they feel they might dream up. Second hand is the only logical choice, as for saftey, the belt can be carefully inspected to determine it meets standards.

Yes, but only if its legal to fit it.

He's lucky I didn't fail him on the drivers belt height not adjusting, or drilling through the parcel shelf to fit a kiddie seat anchor.

How do you surgest people anchor them then? i have done 3 cars like this and never had a comment about them?

I don't know, and I don't really care either. However it is a wof fail to modify the parcel shelf as its structural.
