Leaking Rack

Recommended Posts

so my rack leaks quite a bit of fluid..

I figure its not to hard to remove should i want to do that, but what is the process for finding/fixing leaks.

They have two hydralic pipes.. in and out so im guessing it could be there, or in fact the rack ends?

Are these the places it leaks from? only places?

I understand its hard to know with out seeing the leaking rack.. but there must be some sort of common proceedure to follow to figure out where its coming from with out blindly fixing replacing stuff left right and center..

Input welcome from anyone thats done this or know what they are actually doing, guessing wont be helpful.

reasoning to get it fixed..

1)i hate leakes

2)i hate buying fluid

3)powersteering fluid is ooober flamable and with MM upon us..

degrease the lot just spray will nilly wash down...

drive for a bit see where fluids coming from....

theres 2 o rings on the inlets into the rack and these perish ...typical from what i got told as it happened to me.

Wacked some new orings in and away i went..

Bit of a slut of a job to replace but its doable

supercheap stuff does an all good job...

its easy to get rack out its 4 bolts BUT 2 get the top 2 hoses off into the rack requires very small spanners and time to get undone lol

I find its easier to prop the engine up (using a brace across the top of the engine bay) then release the rack and lower it down quite a bit. Takes much less time in the end and isn't as fiddly.

We've got a bar that goes across the engine bay that you chain the engine to. Then you undo the engine mounts, and then undo the sub-frame from the chassis and lower just the subframe down. Allows nice, easy access to the top of the steering rack cause it was being a pain and making me cry.

thanks Koom!!

I was thinking along those lines and i now fully get ya.. an Engine crane would also do the job.. or any ddevice capable of holdingthe block up.. so the subframe can come lower.

I currently have an RS with no engine so can see how lifting a block makes getting at the rack easier.

Much helpful. thank you sir.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
