diff/cv joint extreme clunking and grinding

Guest

Recommended Posts

on the way to hamilton last night, came of a give way, changed to 2nd, changed to 3rd......................clunk, grind, click click, clunk, clunk.

Left it out the side of the road, walked home.

Went back this morning, tried towing it, just got pulled onto the road and it made that clunking noise again, feels like its coming from the front left. Went a borrowed a big trailer, chucked the legacy on, put it in the garage. up on axle stands started the car, put in 1st, let clutch out and made the same noise.

Has anyone got a clue what has gone wrong.

Any help will me much appreciated.

Cheers

without seeing it, it sounds like you have an rs or gt? which if it did have a broken cv joint would cause it to have verry little drive..

and it still drives? id say you have smashed a cv. did you notice any clicking before hand??? or even a torn boot would be a give away...

Possibly too late now but you undo it under the car. Need a 12mm spanner. Undo the nut that holds on the big round bush, remove that which will also take the little spring with it. Then undo the bolt that goes through the uni joint on the gearchange mechanism. Gear lever should then be disconnected from the box.

there should be a gearbox code on the side of the bell housing of the one your removed. Post that up for us to look at.

have a look here---> http://spda-online.ca/modules/tinycontent/rewrite/tc_28.html

also check the tag on the strut tower to check the gb number matchs what you got on the gb itself.

and a fail safe... count the rear diff crown wheel teeth.

basically you just need to find a box with the same rear/front diff ratios - the above will help us help you find what they are. It will 95% be either a 4.444 or 4.111 final.

and your car is a

JDM Legacy RS & GT (turbo) MY94-95...?

that box is listed as having a 4.111 final - thus what your rear should be now. Although.. if you've smashed the front diff pinion you might be running a different ratio.... def worth checking your rear diff. Count the teeth through the bung and report back. (youl have to drain the oil).

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
