dangers of over-filling?

what does happen if u overfill oil/ trans fluid??

this morning checked trans fluid, was low as (changed it a week ago), so topped her up, dip stick was coming out with diff readings every time. Added some more, still seemed too low. took her for a drive, BOOM shes fill alright.

Does it just mean it will take longer for the fluid to heat up pretty much?

how much overfill is it? a little wont hurt.

i purposely overfill mine by about half a litre over the full mark as i have no front diff (RWD) so need to oil level quite high to make sure it gets to the gearsets. never had any issues with doing it.

but in your case if its way over, i would drop some out, but just a little at a time as it takes a while for the oil to settle.

i tried to look under the car, the drain bolt area looked a bit wet, but it couldnt be leaking from there aye? it would have to be seriously seriously loose for that too happen? and i know it was put on tight.

also, when the cars completely cold, is 'ideal' on the low mark, then when warm, on the full mark??

did you replace the alloy/copper washer on the drain plug? if not that can cause it to weep a bit even if the plugs tight. at work i replace every washer, its like insurance lol, whether it be engine/gearbox/diff.

you want to fill it to the full mark, either cold or hot, there wont be much if any difference. after a drive let it sit for a while then check it, and keep checking it til your satisfied.

another possibility is that some oil was spilt while filling and the residual oil its just sitting there. give it a good degrease and keep checking.

the gearbox does have a breather so anything particularly excessive will be blown out

Over filled my old GC8 gearbox, blew the excess out the breather and made a mess haha. But cant see anything bad will come out of overfilling.

im thinking this happened now, reason 1) its sitting at perfect level now, reason 2) reeks like the fluid after every drive now haha. Sweetttt
