  1. Yeah HDMI is basically the same as a PC DVI-D connector, which graphics cards have been using for years. Or if you used Apple Macs - they've always used the DVI plug. Only reason HDMI was introduced as it has content control/scrambling/anti-piracy, similar to CSS for DVDs. I'm only using the cheap Jaycar HDMI leads - I see no point in getting a $200 monster cable? With digital you don't have the loss issues associated with analog anyway! DIN plugs are quite easy to wire, for playback it's the two outer pins for left/right and shield for common. I got some from jaycar and made my own leads. Even my car RCA leads are the Jaycar triple shielded with gold plugs - much neater when you make them to the length required. Looking at the rear of my vintage Kenwood KA-6000 solid state amp; I notice it only has one DIN and the rest are RCA. It has phono inputs for both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil.
  2. I thought Loewe, Grundig, etc... were supposed to be good? One would assume, given the price tags on them. DIN plugs were great in the day - I can still play my ipod through my old all-in-one vintage PYE unit, although it's mainly used for LP's What's wrong with HDMI? Is component video still the better choice - as it's an analog signal?
  3. If nothing else is happening that weekend; I'm sure a few would be heading up. Either that or prepping cars for the Playday at Manfeild the following weekend.
  4. Those Hella Plus 90 bulbs shouldn't be blowing that frequently. I am using the same ones in the 89 Legacy GT of over a year now - admittedly the car doesn't get much use, but that's beside the point. They are quality German made Osram bulbs. osrams overated , plus there packagings ugly haha They could be Philips bulbs - I'm not too sure, I usually get them in OEM blister packing from WR Twiggs, around half the price of the fancy 'Ripco' retail packing. The Philips Xtremepower (plus 80) were good for halogen filament bulbs. Were $45+gst at the time I last used them.

  6. I've got some in Waitakere/Massey I've got to pick up at some stage, but I almost never stop through Hamilton - it's usually either thru Te Kuiti or Taupiri.
  7. I'll come for a proper look too. I had a brief catchup with Steve last night - he was still quite sore... hopefully you guys would have fully recovered by then. We'll be sure to take plenty of high-res shots, so Viv/Steve can do a proper write-up.
  8. Same as this one on trademe: http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/tvs/standard/crt/22-32-56-81cm/auction-418045305.htm It was an odd one for Sony. Made in Spain. Rear scart connectors - which are a French standard. I've had a few older Sony's in the past - some Browngoods technician claimed the Trinitron tubes were the best picture for CRT, but Panasonic still lead the market for reliability (back when stuff was made in Japan, up until the mid 90's).
  9. You've disabled the chirps, easy fix. Press a few buttons and tap your feet...
  10. 62kg? That is heavy for a 32", unless it's nett weight inclusive of cabinet? Will arrange pick-up when I get back from Targa.
  11. Would have been safer at the olds. 24 hour surveillance (for now). Yeah I would have parked it in the garage.
  12. I'm out. Will be with the Targa timing crew, just finishing up Stage 21, outskirts of Te Kuiti - having a feed/drinks in some 'dodgy' pub - suggestions? And prepping for next stage the following day Stage 26, Taihape. Speaking of Targa; the timing teams are still a few short - any help would be appreciated.
  13. If you're going Sony; go for a slightly higher model, i.e. http://www.sony.co.nz/product/cdx-gt790ui A mate has a similar looking unit, and they appear to be ok Cheap entry models tend to look nasty, and only have one line display - need at least two these days.
  14. My doors automatically lock as soon as I hit 25km/hr.
  15. Wasn't that Taupo? I would assume Palmy be cheaper? $130/hr?
  16. The Shred boys might be a little busy at the moment with some big changes on the horizon (very exciting stuff) but we might be able to organize a group dyno day to celebrate Also they are prepping all the D1NZ drift cars for the season I think they are also doing a deal on the Link G4's atm, free IAT sensor & boost solenoid. Last drive to palmy in the wagon was $60, approx 27.16L of 95 (V-Power). Return trip. What friends?
  17. Who says Pioneer are hard to use? In fact they are amongst the easiest to use, and the menus are really well thought out. Well the 6 series models and above anyway. Stock Legacy speakers are likely to look like this, so I'd be looking at replacing them - at least the fronts anyway.
  18. Damn, STM did the Ford club the other week at about $60 for 2WD. Grahame sneaked on for the same/similar price. He should have tipped us off earlier - rather than 9.30am on Sat morning when I was still sleeping... I'm sure Keith will be quite reasonable - esp if you've been to a dyno day prior. I went a few years ago, back when I had my Possumlink.
  19. It was a nice sunny day - ideal for a drive and photos: And the new location:
  20. Probably; it's not dynatron - as the LED wiring is in the plug. I suspect it's a Meridian - they are the crappiest alarms, and often tend to fail/blow/melt.... I've personally pulled at least 3-4 bad ones. Also the install is very poor - both immobilzation points are on the same side of the plug and next to each other. I could bypass that in less than 30 seconds! How can that be NZSA compliant when the rules state that immobilizer points should be at least 300mm apart, and not on the same loom!! And I'll bet it was "professionally" installed too. There are two places in welli/hut that I've witnessed installs and I wouldn't recommend anyone go there. One of them do audio as well.
  21. hmmmm.... most speakers are marketed as: 17cm (6.5"), 16cm (6")
  22. that could be bad photoshopping... i've tried to bring out the sharpness, see the ladder, under the deck, the driveway.... but at the expense of losing the colours - i cropped the filters too much prior to applying them. the bottom pic was comprised of threee bracketed photos.
  23. I didn't realize the difference was that great between Ver 1-6 and V7 door cards. I fitted some older Alpine DDDrive speakers in a mates one efffortlessly. But those were piddly 6" speakers and very shallow. I'm sure with the correct spacers the aforementioned Pioneer ones should fit behind the cards...
