  1. Yeah, i was told the stock rods are perfectly fine when building my engine, but bugger me are they pricy new. Second hand didn't interest me at all though.
  2. So did you get those JE's coated? I found out after the engine was put back together that it was up to me, now i has very noisy pistons, lol. the guy's at PBMS were pretty much: "meh" though As for the run in, yeah i pretty much did the same as what you described. As i got close to 500k's, i slowly started building up boost and rpm. after the run in oil was out, i took another few hunded k's to slowly build it up to redline and full boost. Did another change at 3000k's, and have been doing them at 5000k intervals since. Running castrol edge 10w-60 as per PBMS recommendation for my build (they said anything 10w-60 or there abouts - didn't recommend a brand).
  3. Can i ask what shot peining is?
  4. This stolen from my conversion thread. It's to convert the GTB loom to the STi loom. Maybe you'll be able to deduce the correct wiring from it for your little conversion. If i just have a look at the pinouts, that's wiring "ignition" 1 and 2 into A10 (B137) and 3 and 4 into A9. This way, i'm running my coil packs in wasted spark, and i've had no issue's whatsoever. Still using the factory coils for the GTB no trouble. I do however have a V3 coilpack waiting to go in just to get that authentic STi looking engine bay (bit it's not as simple as simply plugging it in )
  5. Yeah, those big spotties are stock for GTB limiteds.
  6. The history behind RUF. Very good watch. 4 parts.
  7. Yeah, i was gutted when mine went... but i must admit i couldn't wipe the smile off my face later that day as i started thinking about all the goodies i could chuck in there, and the single conversion. I still can't wipe the smile off my face when i drive the car ;D
  8. Just FYI. We were SO close to getting a GT auto crossmember... but... Those ever so wonderfull TT's that i love so much made it impossible to get out (atleast from where we were lying) without taking the exhaust off. The Y-pipe was trapping the f'ing thing in there.
  9. So what do you think cause yours stoffa? How many k's on the engine?
  10. Many ways to kill BEB's. Detonation has to be a big one doesn't it... Don't want to start running lean and hot, then start detonating, while raping it to the redline down the straights. I think most the time peak power is a good thousand or two before redline (Stock V3 STi ECU on mine, peak is about 6800). So i think lower boost and shifting round 6-7k instead of 8 is a damn good policy on the track
  11. IMHO, better safe than sorry. But i would agree with the overfilling thing being a good alternative. Worse case you blow a seal... much nicer than blowing a big end! Are V7+ sumps different in anyway? Or are they just much tougher engines and don't blow big ends as much full stop.
  12. Some more of mine from the megameet. Next year i will be on the track!
  13. Yeah i know! i was disappointed, gotta get more next time i reckon.
  14. More here http://s197.photobucket.com/albums/aa208/Pilot_Reuben/Mega%20Meet%2009/
  15. Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  16. I've been wanting one for ages. All the other forums i go to have them, you can just spend hours ogling at nice subies.
  17. VF39's out of the USDM 2.5L STI till 06 i thinks. It pretty much has the same flow rates at the VF22 as far as i've seen. TBH, if you could find something like a VF24, that would probably be a very good option.
  18. More complex than required? it's easy as pie and works a treat. And they have stickers on them with a part number, kinda helps in matching them up.
  19. Well the whole point of upgrading to 3-plug is the injectors and tune of the STi 3-plug ECU's I'd only go with a fozzy ECU if you planned on upgrading to the STi and yellows later. Oh and get a VF39 au, they haul (i got mine for $300 from a guy named paul, i can give you contact details if you want)
  20. Yep, it's also been established that the 4-plug plugs plug into 3-plug ECU, and there looks to be an equal amount of re-pinning to do (about half ish) So really, i reckon it would be foolish to go with 4-plug ECU, when you can get a 3-plug in there with the same amount of hassle. The one thing about the 3-plugs are you will need to get yellow injectors, and a compatible air flow meter. Wiring wise, take a look at this PDF, and the northursalia link above ECU Pinouts BC5/BG5a/WRX 4-plug.pdf Also, the GTB 3 plug is the same as the impreza 3plugs, only it has 4 ignition wires not 2. Regardless, it may help to have both. i fount the little diagram at the top of the gtb one very handy 97-98 ECU pinout.pdf
  21. Yep, they do get around. That scan i did of the keyless entry page from the owners manual has popped up everywhere. And yeah, i saw that too, even most the wires match, i compared the pinouts and about half didn't have to get moved.
  22. I stumbled accross a good pinout for the 4-plug ECU's, this should hopefully make thing's easier. You can grab it from my server here. ECU Pinouts BC5/BG5a/WRX 4-plug.pdf And for reference: 97-98 ECU pinout.pdf
  23. Oh you bet it is. And your car, is a BG5B GT is it? What's your applied model code and engine code? And do you have grey top injectors, or yellow top injectors?
