Ive seen a pic compairing this photo to the only shot showing the GT5 under bonnet of the FT-86.

You can see similaritys.

Ive heard it will have direct injection, timing chain, be lighter and shorter?

These engines may be out by 2011 or 2012? Thats the possible dates for release of the FT86

So yeah it looks difficult to fix BUT once you have taken one apart it will be easy.

I thought my EJ207 was hard to decipher but once in bits it was actually a stroke of weasels pee!

The plastic intake will not last as long as the alloy one but it will probably outlast other parts of the engine.

AFAIK the STI still uses the metal intake presumably because it has to cope with higher pressures...

What about raw material cost, manufacturing cost, less wear on tooling i.e. maintenance cost etc etc? I think the lighter weight would be a reasonable way down the accountant's list of pro's vs con's.

weight will be nothing at all to do with it... cars are built by accountants, not engineers these days so plastic is the best option, toyota have used them for years.. since 1998?

the first performace reasoning i came up with is plastic wouldnt heatsoak like alloy does so would make intake cooler.

it doesnt have 90 degree hot water running thru it for the entire life of the car... a bit of boost and 40degree air wont do much... plus if it does crack, get your hot glue gun out lads...
