GF8 Mods Done..Now PROBLEMS!!!!!

Hey guys. just did the usual "sti" upgrades : VF29, yellows, ecu, afm.

got it all bolted up..however im still waiting for a silicone 45degree joiner for the afm. i started the car up this morning using the purple afm...but its smoking real bad white smoke out the exhaust. "could it be the afm since the ecu is meant for a orange afm?

all the reading ive done says it could be blown seals, injector leaking etc. it does smell abit like fuel/exhaust gas lol. and dripping condensation but thats the least of my worries for now. just want the car to run lol.

yea that is a possiblity in my head..however i bought it off a trusted mate so i highly doubt it could be the turb...

so not running an orange afm atm will not cause the car to blow white smoke??

unplug the afm, the car should still run without a mixed signal from the afm... if its not that, then my guess is punch your mate in the chops

swt...so u reckon unplug the afm...start the car n it should still run?? wont the idle be a bit F*ked?? will try it as soon as i get back from lunch.

yeah it will idle fine, just will be hesitant to drive, you dont have the afm connected to the intake do you???

just tried driving it...it would reverse. but as i try going back up the drive way it hesitates to move.

when turned off..white smoke still hovers in the outlet of the exhaust and now theres a small wet patch of fuel in it too.....

im thinkin its cause im not using my orange afm?? or injectors leaking? (i checked to make sure that the o rings and little round gasket thing were all there before i planted the battery etc bak on)

and the white smoke filled up almost the whole atmosphere around my garage!!!

That much white smoke generally means blown turbo seals...

i dont think it will be afm making it smoke, although you do need to get the right one before driving it, i'd be looking at leaking injectors or bung turbo, most likely turbo. take the sparkplugs out after its been running and see if any of them are wet with fuel.

this is normal with the wrong or no afm

bet its the turbo or injectors

alright...guess i have a mean mission tomorrow.....

another thing i realised...as u turn the car off. i can still hear the turbo spinning....n it has never done this bfore...i think lol.

so if my plugs are a bit wet with fuel...that means injectors r leaking??

correct, one or more will be soaked if leaking, to have that much smoke, but your symptoms point mostly towards turbo unfortunately.

alright..thanks alot everybody. but.....if the turbo was blown...would it be leavin fuel in the exhaust outlet??

no not usually, haha. but in saying that, you have obviously running it with the wrong afm which wont be doing it any favours... fuel smoke is usually black and oil blueish white.

swt...got that now. yea im gettin the silicone joiner ina few days for the afm.....

anychance of rebuilding the turb? or uz reckon jus get anufa?

smoke might just be coolant in the up-pipe from the turbo swap, i remember getting coolant in my up-pipe when i did my turbo swap and i made a thick foggy smokescreen down an entire street until it had all boiled off, so see how she runs with the proper afm...

also i found my VF turbo made that sexy spinning down noise that the TD turbo didnt (i went td04 to vf23) so possibly nothing to worry about there fingers crossed or my ones poked as well but has been going just dandy for the past 40K's

chur for that...yea im jus waiting for the silicone joiner ta get the orange afm and then i plan to run it till it warms up at least lol. my fingers have been crossed the whole day!!!

not sure about the vf29 but my vf22 is ball bearing so that's what i can hear spooling down when i turn the car off and when i come on boo s t
