HELP! BH5 gtb not starting

Unsure if it was out of time, didn't know how to tell ???. Going to buy a new cambelt today and hopefully have it in over the weekend.

not at the time was too stunned by the state of it but looking through the pics we took i found this one.

doesn't look lined up, looks like one of the markings on the belt is 3.5 teeth across to the right ??? that can't be right...

The bottom one is out by about the same amount though, so it wasn't timed up before the belt was removed.

do not remove the old belt until you confirm how the timing was, get someone who knows to check it.

you need to know if the timing is causing the problem. if it isn't, and the timing is good, changing the belt will be a waste of time - although i agree it needs replacing.

im back sunday morning but i really dont know if i'll have time - i have a truckload of things to do within 4 days before MM

Yup the timing was out.

Did the cambelt, made sure everything was lined up and it worked.

+1, still don't know why it wouldn't fire on 3 and 4...

only thing i can think of is the bolt was causing some kind of interference

Timing out = cam and crank angles out. Maybe that explains it?

3 & 4 is one on each head tho too...

if it was 2/4 1/3 that would make more sense surely..

it was very weird

ive only heard that kind of stumble/stutter/pop/missfire when i had wired my ignition in the wrong order

still love to know exactly how the belt can jump. sure the tensioner was ok? did you reuse it?

Those tensioners fail quite often, even from new....

When a bolt gets stuck between it and a cam pulley im sure it will jump

yep this is my theory, you can get them to jump teeth just by doing up the crank pulley nut...(maybe wrong way - too tight etc)

put simply big bar and too tight...

Hold the cam pulley and tighten the crank bolt and it will skip teeth.
