CV replacement

hhhh1

Recommended Posts

hey ive got a 94 rs legacy and my back passenger side outer cv boot blew a while ago and now the cv joint itself is stuffed as it makes a chilcking noise when accellerating (even lightly now, and also when engine braking). i probably should replace it so can someone help me out with the howto or is it something that can be done cheaply/is too difficult to bother with myself?

second hand. you buy it as a replacement shaft including the cv joints and just swap it over.

pretty simple exercise,

axle nut off, separate the hub from an arm or 2 to allow it to angle away and pull off from the cv

punch the pin on the inner cv allowing it to slide off the front diff axle stub.

repeat in reverse order with replacement halfshaft/cvs :P

What you can do is remove the driveshaft yourself, and then take it in to a mechanics to get repaired.

Otherwise, as it's an outer, if you remove the shaft and can't get the CV off, you can place the shaft in a vice, just make sure the top of the shaft is level with the top of the vice and put the CV hard against the end of the vice. Then smash it off with a copper hammer ;D

(your changing the CV so damage to it doesn't matter anyway :))

Yeah they weren't very hard to do at all. You do need a strong powerbar (1/2" drive minimum), and possibly a decent sized pipe to go over the bar as extra leverage, as the hub nuts can be VERY difficult to budge, if they haven't been undone in a long time.

You'll just need to check which CV joint to get as there are a few different kinds, with different spline counts. Your local BNT should know which one will fit. If you/they aren't 100% positive, then get both kinds and return the one you don't use.

Are you sure it's the c.v.? Inner front c.v.s and rear axles usually make a horrible vibration well before they start clicking when they have worn out or lost their grease.

I'd be checking the wheelbearings and that the axle nut was tight before I started replacing a c.v.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
