No, it wasn't theV8 one with a wing, it was the V-tec powered one. (I don't think there's any of the V8's in NZ yet). It was one owned by www.OpenWheelers.com as a demo car.

Most don't these days, and I can see why when reading over a few previous cases. It's abit of 50/50 call I find. Since if you do scrutineering and miss something which leads to this kind of accident occuring, the scrutineer and event organiser could/will be in the crapper.

However if you get them to sign a waiver that says that their car is up to scratch, and have followed the rules&regulations set out by you then you are not liable technically.....

I'm abit iffy personally, and still rather personally check they have the fire extinguishers/good tyres etc etc and also sign the waiver. As the amount of guys that had dodgey fire extinguisher setups let alone no fire extinguisher was amazing to see. And Im more then confident if someone died due to cutting corners safety wise I'd be prosecuted for not taking minimal steps to ensure safety is being adhered too.

Im amazed how people are happy to cut corners when it could be something that would save your life in an accident.

Just go to MSNZ affiliated events instead, that way you know checking is done, there is protection for the organisers too by the way of the disclaimer entrants sign (which amongst other things says that you agree to check your car is safe, regardless of whether it is scrutineered or not).

That and often MSNZ affiliated events are cheaper anyway. Playday is a good example of that, they are regularly 40-50% more expensive than a local MSNZ club event at Manfield.

Even if scrutineering is 100% perfect, there's nothing stopping dodgy drivers from swapping tyres over after scrutineering. Not saying that it's happened here, but it is done...
