Best Radiator Cap

Recommended Posts

Hey all the rubber on the standard radiator cap has turned to sh*t, just wondering if those 1.3bar caps are any good or if I should just go get a standard one? Am not too sure what the standard ones pressure are rated at anyway.

v3 1997 sti.

If its good from factory with no faults, Don't **** with it, Just replace with a genuine subaru cap

1.3bar cap makes standard hoses\end tanks etc more prone to exploding

standard 1.1bar? cap is more than adequate for a street car

Mines 1.3 bar ???

the 1.3bar caps have their advantages but you would never see those extremes on the street

and when you do see those extremes on the track, it will tax every other cooling component rated to 0.9/1.1 bar - expect failure

i bought a sti 1.3bar cap in japan but don't see myself ever fitting it

I believe the ones you get from places like Repco, Supercheap, your local petrol station are 0.9 bar rated.

Again, fine for standard systems. If you get a 1.3bar cap, then you'd also want to upgrade all your water hoses to better silicon ones, then also wait for your factory radiator to sh*t a plastic tank, then get an alloy one :D

Then you're pretty much set!

Looking at full alloy race radiators at the moment, GC8 wrx silicon hoses should fit my car right?

Well I can only speak from my own experience, but I'm running the 1.3bar cap, and my radiator sh4t itself. so i upgraded it to an alloy one, and am also running full silicon hoses, so I'm just hoping I don't have any more problems :)

if your alooy radiator and silicone hoses are good you should be right, then theres other things that may be the weakest link... i decided against a 1.3bar when i upgraded my radiator and hoses because i figured there was no gain for the risk, the new radiator keeps temps down more than standard anyway

my geniune cap has rusted, i really dont understand how you can make radiator cap that isnt rust-resistant. Worth getting a new one or not? seems to just be some rust particles floating on top of radiator.

pretty much whats happening to mine, plus the rubber is wearing off it I'll probably just get a new one, worth going to Subaru for it or just get a repco one?

i would recommend going genuine?? or autostop or BNT or something??? so factory cap is 0.9 bar?? i might just stick to factory even tho ive got an alloy radiator..like nztining said..no point taking the risk lol.

but yea willz...if u go genuine..could u post up how much it cost? should be around 50??

you can get a perfectly useable one for 5 bux from repco! theres nothing special about your subaru that you need a 40 dollar cap!!

I got told that ones that have HKS on them are the best. Either that or ones that come with free monster energy stickers and a flat peak hat...

Seriously though. If you want bling go get a annodised alloy 1.3 bar one.

But if you want something that will do your job more than suffciently, go and get a 0.9 bar cap. You are more than likely to have a hose blow off, or crack, or develop a hole way before the cap reaches its yeild point.

I wonder if Ken block brought out his own radiator caps how many doosh bags would buy them? Hahaha

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
