Help with STI V7 engine knocking sound

STI

Recommended Posts

My V7 starts to make knocking sound when cold, went away after warmed up. Not yet get it checked by mechanic, but i think it should be the bearing. :(

Question is what are the options to get it fixed? R they going to be costly? ???

Thanks guys

I thought it is normal to Subaru to have knocking when cold start as long as it goes away when it is warmup.

My one is like some kind of knocking when get the car out from garage for the first few ten meters then the noise is gone. Especially happens in the morning. My mechanical says it is normal as over the night all the enginer is on the bottom of the block. It takes sometime for the oil to run through everywhere in the block. This is what I have been told. don't quote me ???

How long does the noise stay? is it all the way you drive until it warm up?

The ver 7 sti was the last ver to come with subaru forged pistons - so they could be behind the noise. When cold forged pistons can be abit noisey - once they heat up and expand the noise goes away.

how can you tell if a car has forged internals?

apart from opening it up of course?

Apart from the obvious.

mine knocks/rattles when cold thats all, once its warmed up or i start reversing down the driveway its gone.

I just thought my motor was getting old and tired or an engine mount is tired.

i guess i'll never know till its apart

mine did that for a while I thought it may be a bearing, took it to get checked out at sublab, it turned out to be a waterpump. if it was a brearing it would go pretty quickly then overheat

My water temp seems to be normal, no overheating at all. But according to the previous owner, the waterpump was leaking so he replaced it with a new one about 20k ago. Maybe it's a crap one.

^^^ Agreed, wouldnt touch anything from them with a barge pole.

Out of 5 people I know personaly who brought from FF 4 had problems inside 10 thou ks.

Two of those people were older people who sure as hell werent thrashing there cars either.

I had a problem with a car from them. It was after 30,000km and lots of thrashing and a bit of high boost chucked in. I don't think we can blame them for this one.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
