3" turbo-back exhaust with no cat illegal?

Hi all,

I just have a question. I've been quoted mild steel 3" turbo-back exhaust for around $1400 but apparently you could get a 3" turbo-back stainless steel exhaust from ebay (but no cat) for around $600.

So is having no cat illegal? Could I get a cert for my exhaust without a cat?

ive got a 2.5" from turbos back with 1 basic muffler with 3" exit and it plays a briliant note thats only kinda loud under heavy load, so im thinking, no need for a 3" all the way through.. as boostin said, it may end up too loud and theirs nothing worse than having a noisey car everywhere you go, soon get sick off it.

What ever happened to that proposed rule of "if came with a cat it needs a cat on the modified exhaust" business??

not a clue dude, ive always ditched the cat on all my cars and never had any issue, ive even put headers on my van and removed the cat.. well i cant remember if it had one to begin with but it dosnt now and it went through the testing station with ,well i wont say flying colours but it passed!!

U can always put a "cat" in it with no insides in it

only way they will pick it up is by emissions testing and that aint ever gonna happen

what model is your car? i have a 3 inch hks stainless mid and rear, and some sort of group n down pipe that i would part with

All they need to do to check if its been gutted is to check cat inlet temp compared to outlet temp, It should raise noticeably post cat. You just use one of those infrared laser thermometer.
