FLOODING!

Ok so I set off this morning on my way to Napier, flooding all across SH2 (major slips around lake Tutira) - no way through, so I'm waiting for them to clear it. Are there are routes I should avoid heading south into Wellington to avoid delays? Some of the locals may know...

You could always try the back country gravel roads that would get you across to the Taupo road, although probably twice as bad as the one you're currently waiting on re-opening.

Yeah there's an inland route that does go up above and around the lake - but tbh, that's probably in a worse state than the one I'm currently waiting on... Gravel + rain = mud and slips. Awd is nice and all for these conditions, but I probably don't have the clearance.
