bilstein shocks

hi guys :)

here is the deal, my 97 RSB just failed wof coz of front shocks leaking :'( its got the yellow bilsteins.

got a quote for brand new pair of shocks including labour for 920 :o

ur guys opinion on this is much appreciated and was just wandering if its possible to DIY. since this is the front, was thinking will most likely need wheel alignment after this is done.

was told rear shocks arent bad but are on their way out and it could be just a matter of months :'(

how should i go about doin this? and wat r 2nd hand shocks like?

was quoted by sub-r-us for both front shocks for 160. will this be a smart move or will it just be a gamble? they do give 6month warranty but idk wat i shud do.

920 is a shitload of money but i dont wanna be the cheap dude either :'(

cheers

Jeez I feel your pain man, I've been through three sets of shocks on my legacy, here's what I done,

Option 1, had them replaced with 2nd hand ones - they lasted 3,000kms!!!!! so I would definatley not reccomend 2nd hand at all no matter how good someone tells you they are!

Option 2, have them rebuilt at Suspension Tech in Auckland for about $160+ each depending on what they need doing to them and they're good as new after that.

You'll just have to sort out getting them taken out and put back in, any mechanic with half a brain can have each strut out in half an hour or less each corner and wheel alignments are usually about $70 which you'll definatley need.

Best of luck :)

The only thing a strut should affect by being removed is the eccentric bolt. So as long as you align that the right way round it shouldn't affect wheel alignment unless you undo the wrong things. You can pull the struts out easily enough yourself as well, no need for a mechanic to do it.

I would also suggest getting the shocks rebuilt - as they will last alot longer than 2nd hand ones and it isn't that much more expensive to do. I have gone through a massive number of 2nd hand Bilsteins (especially left rears) and its rather frustrating!

Just get them rebuilt.

DIY will only be removal and install. And I still would go get a Wheel Alignment.

Thou When getting prices for rebuilds, get worse case prices.

Autoalign did mine and while they said "$160 but depends on what needs doing"

It ended up being $280 per shock. Even after i told them if its going to be over $200 give me a call first. (I had some Adjusable Bilsteins which were going to cost $300 each for a rebuild, but went OEM for the "cheaper option" at the time)

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
