V3 sti gearbox vs a V3 sti RA gearbox

Are they the same or did the RA's have a close ratio box, if so how can you tell them apart?

id have to be the smart arse and say the number on the bellhousing? failing that, find out diff ratio and make an assumption

ra's would be close ratio i think..

the early ra like v1 maybe v2 also had a lower top speed as was much shorter ratio.

RA's had a different set of ratio's (same between WRX RA and STI RA except the STI RA/Type R boxes have DCCD).

So that'll make it pretty easy to spot the difference between STI box and STI RA.

to best of knowledge, most if not all AFAIK, got a helical LSD

My V3 RA box didn't have a fancy front diff.

haha not in v3 - my v-limited has a BCAA from factory, dirtiest of the dirty plain jane long ratio box, with open front and viscous center.

Mike - the v5 onwards started to get a nice helical front diff from that link, and the v2 STI RA

from the list the first V-Limted was (and is an STI RA):

I read somewhere that RA's and Type R's had shot peined gears as well, my v5 type R is ment to have a helical front diff but I haven't had it apart to confirm

Its the same box. The R and RA got the closer ratios. Strength wise they're pretty much the same.

A couple of pics from my Version 3 STI RA. Gearbox Code - TY752VB5CA Mine has an Open Front Diff.

DCCD Centre Diff:

You can tell the STI RA gearbox by the wire coming out of the top of the gearbox (plate / cover) on the left in the 1st picture below.
