cost to paint mags in Auckland...?

Hey,

Can anyone tell me how much to paint a set of mags in Auckland? Where is the best place to get the work done?

Or better yet has anyone here able to a professional job (cashy?)

I recently had mine tidied and repainted by WRS (Wheel Repair Services). John is a good guy and does a quality job. From memory it was around $150 per wheel (depending on condition of course).

sorry not meant to hi-jack this thread but may i ask whats the different between powdercoating and painting?

powdercoating..powder sprayed on to what ever you are painting and attracted to it by an electrical charge to make it stick.Then baked in an oven to turn powder into paint,a bit like enamel on pottery.Good durable surface but does give a buildup which can cause clearance problems on tight fitting items.

Paint...is just paint.Brush,spraycan or spraygun.

think of it as a dry form of paint (powder) it gets electrostaticly charged to the surface and then sent through an oven at around 230 degrees celcius. it doesnt turn into paint though..it just cures and sets on the surface...

there shouldnt be any build up if its done by a pro ( you can adjust and change every setting for the powder output...so shouldnt be too little or not enough like what can happen with spray painting....even if there is a build up..it should only be a few microns if that so shouldnt be any problems

depends what kind of finish your after and how much you want to spend.

The prepping process is the same for both spray painting and powder coating.

Some people theorise that the heat involved in curing the powdercoat approaches the temperatures used for some forged rim manufacture, and that powdercoating forged rims will therefore affect the metallurgy.
