heat wrap or stock heat shroud? whats better?

Just wondering if its better to have heat wrap pipes or stock subaru heat shroud ?

when i get certed i had to do both, have a heat shield of some sort and at least exhaust wrap halfway down the downpipe but certifier in chch could have been just picky on my setup or in general

stock heat shroud. Its good for some heat to be removed other wise it super heats your pipes and eventually shit cracks.

ummmm sooo what would be Better if I had the option of either? (I currently have my exhaust in pieces)

I was thinking both would be good but will the stock piping handle the heat ?

stock headers won't crack... but you need the stock shields to keep them dry... driving through water

when the headers are hot is bad.

how does the uppipe fair? as thats the part I will be replacing soon And I am wondering to heatwrap or heat shroud on it and can do both if its going to work better

Or is doing both just overkill on a stock car?

I should note it is an sti, which will oneday be running a non stock PSI so that should be taken into account

if it was me, i'd do both... I would draw the line at wrapping the turbo itself though...

definitely too much heat to keep in. Not overkill for a road car at all.

íve tried heatwrapping the factory setup

a)cheap heatwrap is nasty and melts/fuses into glass

b) heatwrapping factory expansion joints is a waste of time. the wrap degrades quickly from the movement, and the joint itself fails from the extra heat. lol lost count how many 2nd hand up-pipes i've killed, with or without the wrap

Interesting. My downpipe is used rage one, and I heat wrapped it. Still all good after 3 years nearly. But the wrap is getting worse for ware, I've take the downpipe on and off so many times that the wrap has started to get torn apart near all the bolts, from being abused by my lousy spanner work
