think its gearbox???

iv struck a problem

have just been out for a drive and come home to look under my gt/b and its got huge leak now don't mean to be stupid but oil doesn't seem to be warm

now have gotten under and had a bloody good look even cleaned up under there but still cant see were its coming from has any body had this same problem or now what im looking for

help

its a 5 speed man now oil seems to be a browny black smells like gearbox or diff

front axel seal maybe?? by the inner cv?

or is it coming out the gearbox breather??

or rear gearbox seal where the driveshaft comes out?

na its at the frount can see the drip trall looks like it from the frount of bell hoseing

oh yea well u got 2x things it can be...

rear crank seal (engine oil)

or

front gearbox seal (gearbox oil)

if it is defonatly coming from bell housing then either way the gearbox needs to be removed

how hard if a job is it to replace the seal in box?

i havent done a suby gearbox seal before but in theory it should be remove gearbox and just pop seal out and replace...could be wrong though

rear crank seals not hard if its that..just remove gearbox..then clutch then flywheel then replace seal...might as well do it while ur in there anyway...

u wouldnt be happy if it started leaking afterwards aye haha

motor is brand new only done 6000 kms so far so that should be sweet hopefully

ill get ahold of subaru tomorrow and see how much they rob for frount seal

say gearbox input shaft seal and you should sound alot more onto it

are u really sure its coming from the bell housing??? just saying cos u dont wana get it pulled and it not be that??

im 90 percent sure that's were its coming from im gonna drop it into the garage out the back of my work and get them to have a look

just got car back from garge

seems its the rear crank shaft seal was only replaced 8000 kms ago in rebuild

and the frount input shaft seal on gear box

looks like shes been parked up till i get tools and time to fix GURRR >

yeah with seals it not really to do with KMs..(dont get me wrong..when theyre old and brittle/hard they do leak)....it more to do with who installed them and how...

if you install them rough and damage the seal they last a while then they just leak

not sure as yet I have a gearbox at work that i am stripping will let you know once i get into work this morn

yes you will have to open the box

this may be a silly question but the front diff and the gearbox share the same oil in a manual gtb dont they?

yeah they do in the manual version

the autos run the diff seperate

wel was,nt too hard of a job after all people no the next kick in the teath is they gave me wrong seals lol so wont be putting back together till next week now DAM IT
