Replacement Speedo Out by 20kmph

Guest

Recommended Posts

So I bought a new addition to my project car a 240km speed. It was apparently from a grand wagon auto with the only difference being i had to swap over one central plug to get it to hook up to my GTB 1996 loom.

Everything is sweet and all works a treat except the speedo reads 20km more that actual travel speed... Used my GPS phone to test speed also was getting overtaken by mopeds so knew I wasn't going 50kmph.

I checked in with an instruments specialist and he said that a recalibration would be $300+.

So is there any other options or advice as I like my new speedo and don't want to revert back to JDM 180km?

its out cause grand wagons have bigger wheels and calibrated for that ;)

Your telling me that my 17" wheels are so much smaller that it cause a error of 20Kph? Must be some Big Wheels on them Grand Wagons. lol

they obviously didnt notice it was out :) some time some one will then it will fail... you are only allowed a 10% variance

Yep agreed.

The speedo / odo is only allowed to over read by 10% maximum (i.e. shows 100Km/h but actual is 90Km/h). This is a requirement for manufacturers and over the lifetime of the car...

It can become a issue during crash investigations if the speedo is incorrect especially with fatalities involved...

And is a perfect loophole for insurers to claim your car wasn't upto WOF standard... Your effectively not covered if they discover that...

For those with standard speedos, I read somewhere that its normal for them to read faster than your actual speed.

Its hard to get instruments to be too accurate, and over-reading your speed is safer for both the driver and manufacturer (legally).

the size of your wheels play a big part too, I put 225/40 r17 on my forester not knowing what diffrence it would make then got told thats the reason for speedo being out by 10 kms so now im riding on 225/55 r17's, an speedos close but not perfect, out by 2kms

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
