V8 Spec C

What does the v8 spec c get/lose vs a normal v8 sti?

What i know:

spec c got the vf36 turbo, which has better bearings than a vf37

thinner (or alloy) roof and boot metal

less sound deadening

thinner glass

Larger intercooler water sprayer

2540mm wheel base (vs 2525) with extra caster

50L (vs 60L) baffeled petrol tank

No side skirts

13:1 steering rack (vs 15:1)

optional wind up windows

roof vent

More boost?

Harder shocks?

nicer wheels (BBS)?

Anything else?

Different suspension - lower a tad and stiffer

Sway bars are the same size, 19mm front and 20mm rear, ive got some sitting in the garage.

Front subframe has extra bracing and front alloy arms have more caster and are longer (this is where the extra track width comes from)

I've read they have better cams but not sure how true it is

They're standard V8 STi cams, which themselves were prototyped on the V7 RA Spec C.

Your car should also have the smaller, baffled fuel tank which is a PITA to fill up. Roof and boot lid should be alloy rather than steel.

The reason i am doing this is to help decide which on to buy, i have been offered a good price on a STI and a average price on a spec c

In addition to waht others have said...

Steering rack was the quicker 13:1, stock was 15:1

Optional DCCD had an auto mode.

Definitely different suspension, a bit lower, firmer springs.

Std wheels were 16" steelies.

V7/8 style 17" were optional, as were the lightweight 10-spoke BBS.

The spec C also ran more caster than standard STI

I have heard it both ways, half thickness steal, or alloy, but dont know which

Well the roof certainly feels rather thin and the boot is light, so wouldn't surprise me. I'm not saying yay or nay though.

A magnet test will show it's probably lighter due to thinner metal rather than different material.

Balls, they will be thin steel. All impreza roofs are thin - my roof supports got removed when my cage went in and my roof feels like a coke can if you press on it! It aint alloy though.

i vote for the Spec C... a mate had a white V8 Spec C and i did not get to see it in person but saw pics and What a beauty!!! definitely more attractive in a way then his mrs V8 STI...

Some v8 stis come with short steering rack too... (his mrs does)

Pity it feels slow, i dont think it is though, just feels slow because you cant hear the engine.

Took a while to get used to the Legacy when we got it. Especially coming from a twin. Peak torque at 2400 rpm on the twin scroll makes it feel like a non-turbo. Just so linear. The newer cars are also much quieter as you noted. Your car won't be slow. It will just feel that way for a while. Until you pile into a corner a bit too hot ;]

Nope not short theyr a "D rack" LOL, As for my C lol I think they are uglyer then the STI standard (excpt for the roof vent ;D). mine just lookd alot better when you saw the pics cus I added a few bits to its factory rapedness lol
