Compliance on heavily modified Jap imports

Hi

Have a few options to buy a couple of nice BP wagons that have had huge money spent on them in Japan on aftermarket parts...but I want to know a little about compliance here so I dont import a car that will end up getting parted out.

What are the main things that imports fail compliance on? and then whats needed and how easy is it to change and get certed?

One of the legacies the guy wrote its over 400hp lol but its a waste if it cant get compliance.

I think he checked both still have cats in their exhausts but suspension is all non standard adjustable type and engines fully modded.

You just have to make sure that it meets the emission standards and you should be sweet

i thought the age of the car mattered now aswell?

There asking for them to be 2000 or newer now, But they do have exceptions if you meet the standards.

I think 2005 is the youngest that gets let in now ?

Unless it's some super-duper classic or whatever.

It's not just emissions but also safety standards that have to be met.

As of Jan 1st - new emission standards come into play..

According to the chap at JustRightCars on the Shore, any 'fun' car (ie. evo, wrx etc.) will need to be 2007 or later (or so..)

how come car yards cant import older cars then, thats why theres heaps of v8s on car lots atm cause they'll have to stop bringing them in soon if what i have been told is correct, 7 years or sumin like that

Changes arent until December or January I believe.

They are adjusting the emission standards as of Jan 1st 2011, so according to the manager of JustRightCars - will need to be later than 2007 or so to be compliable on the roads in NZ.

Yea thats all along side of the emissions, You need to contact VTNZ and give them the year make model etc and they will give you an answer.

I have a few questions regarding importing a car.

So, what is the best way of importing a car? Like buying it from which website and tips on importing a car.

I heard that importing a car is cheaper than buying it here?
