New Owner to a STI V7 2001

Hi all,

I just took ownership of a STI V7 done 135,000k's,

There are small faults needs fixing, maybe someone can share some light/solutions i should try first before taken it to a mechanic.

- Drive side tail brake light not glowing, i turn on my head lights check tail lights but glow but when i get a friend to press the brake pedal the drive side brake lights isnt glowing!

can this be a fuse? if so where is the fuse box, or a blown bulb?

- Windscreen washer spray isn't working! there is no water pumping sound, new water pump or just a fuse needs replacing? if so where is the fuse for this also?

Tomorrow i am getting the following services do at a local workshop here in CHCH:

Engine + Filter change

Brake flush and renewal

Dif oil change

Gearbox oil change

coolant flush and renewal

Anything else i should do?, since it had 135,000k's. Timing belt has been changed.

Go to repco or similar and get a bulb for the lights. Cheap. If its not the bulb then you can keep it as a spare anyway. But thats the first thing id be looking at.

For the window sprayers id pull the tubing off the actual nozel and test to see if water comes out. Sometimes the nozels block up. If no water still id check the pump. If it is the pump then theyr easy and cheap to find i believe. Good luck

My washer bottle in my old WRX was full of a green "sludge" hard to explain, was almost like someone had fluid in it beforehand then put dishwash in there as a cheap alternative.. Amazing watching the stuff fly across the workshop when running compressed air through it.

and +1 to what Sequence said. :)

I pull leaver, am i meant to push a button?

Button is for rear window washer. There are two pump inlets in the tank, each feeding a different pipe. One goes to the front, one goes to the back. One is however situated higher than the other, so it may not be 100% empty if just using one and will get water/washer fluid everywhere(ish) when you remove it if so.

Mines a button on the end of the left control arm thingy... to do the back you have to turn it right round... Mind you thats in my coupe... Not sure if its differant in a v7 sti

Oh you may be right - on some cars it's a button on others it's a twist (for the rear).

Thats what i origanly thought the 'mist pull' was for... Go and try the button. I bet it will work. The mist pull is if your cruising along and you get a light mist of water on your windscreen and you only want the wipers to do one full clean or whatever..

Thanks, i will check after-work.

I'm such a newbie!, i thought all model of cars when you " PULL MIST " it would spray water plus wipers would move!

is there a function that i water spray on the rear windows also?

Yes if you turn the left control thingy then it should activate the rear wiper and if you turn it further it should spray. It shouldnt matter what way you turn it. Unless the v7 sti has a different control arm thingy to the early models.. Just go have a play with it. You should be competent enough to figure it out. Chur

I thought it was pull for water sprayer, This was my first car like it. Thought the water sprayer motor was broken, But in fact I wasn't pushing the right button, Try the button on the end, That will be the water sprayer. ;D

Is it aftermarket suspension or factory? Factory should be a little firm but not too bad, aftermarket can be quite firm to very firm, depending if its on adjustables or just lowered springs. A newer model car I know if that I've been in, has factory shocks and lowered springs, and it was surprisingly firm, and felt a lot of bumps, which factory springs would absorb a lot more of.

Factory suspension is over-damped, so yes it will be a firm ride, even harder if aftermarket springs are fitted (assuming they're rated to match the factory dampers). This is why I have plush German coilovers on mine.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
