This Sunday (6th) show and tell...

As a result of my learnings at Targa I thought this Sunday I would bring the remains of the RS out for people to look at/discuss. Primarily to let others learn from my mistakes and see what impact a reasonable crash has on a car, cage, seats, harnesses etc.

The idea being I have learnt a lot from building the car up from a road car into a reasonably successful rally car and then writing it off. So I want to see what I can do to help people out who are keen on doing some motorsport, or just want to have a good nosey at what happens when it all goes wrong!

Car will be available to crawl over, get pics of and generally be an excuse to talk about racing cars this Sunday at Steves place from 12 - 3pm. If you don't know the address PM me and I will let you know.

This is also a chance to say thanks to all the guys from CS who over the last couple of years have helped me out with the car too. I couldn't have done it without your support!

Any questions fire away here or PM me.

Thanks

Vivian

Wish I could make it down for a nosey...think most of the AKL crew would, for many a reason. Kinda easy to forget how dangerous motorsport is (when you're a newf@g like me, hurr).

Wicked gesture. Looking forward to hearing about it post-meet ;D

Really wish i could come and have a look, especially keen as i'm in the middle of building a cage etc

any chance you'll do a bit of a write up and take some pics for those of us who can't make it in the flesh? real keen to know how your seats, harness and cage held up.

Hey, yes the plan is lots of pics as we pull it apart and lots of discussion around the cage.

What I can tell you so far is the cage did a REALLY good job, I don't have Sainz bars and the car landed on the right front A pillar while rolling and put a bit of dent in there and that was it. So the cage really did a good job of stopping my head from getting squashed.

Seats, not so much. Mine twisted on impact (thats how I hurt my back), not sure if it was the rail, the seat or if one of the mounts got damaged as I haven't pulled anything out of the car yet to find out.

Harnesses I have yet to look at but I expect they will be stretched at least a bit as we had a pretty hard stop! But no issues with them that I am aware of. Again, I will put up more detail after this weekend.

can we commsion mr Aspros for an artists impression?

:D

I have sent an 'announcement' to all WGTN area members too btw (check your profile if you did not get this)

http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php?action=profile;area=groupmembership

so you might see a few new faces hopefully

teach a few boyracerers the benefits of why we do what we do in 'controlled' circumstances (shit that sounds a little too preachy)

Good timing, I was just going to update this too!

Who is that ugly bald fella that seems to end up in the way of the camera? :D

Anyway, my photos mainly are of the cage as I know a few people were interested in how the survived:

Thats the right rear back leg of the cage, its actually punched a hole in the wheel arch! So the cage held together really really well, but was pushed back from the hit above the drivers head I guess.

Not so pleasant was the damage to the non-FIA seat I was running, it moved around on its mounts and also tore in several places from the belts holding against it (belts were installed correctly, seat wasn't upto the task by the looks):

I will be running FIA seats in the next car, at least that way I know they have been crash tested to make sure the design is strong!

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
