What size battery should I have in my 98 Impreza HX20S? I don't think my current battery is big enough (dunno what type it is) as it tends to go flat if the electrical stuff is used too much and the car won't start today now that my car has been sitting around doing nothing for three weeks.

I think you should have something Super Heavy Duty, from a reputable brand like Champion, Exide etc. Depending on where you live, there will be plenty of places you could go and get some good advice, otherwise you could contact these guys and get one from them, but they are in Wellington so shipping would be a killer

Don't need anything more than a 330cca or so unless you're running sound systems or w/e

The factory specified Impreza/WRX/STI battery is a 500CCA, Century part no: 55D23LMF . Although I normally fit the 58MF which is slightly bigger at 530CCA (and cheaper).

The bigger CCA (cold cranking amps) is not for bigger sound systems, etc... it's to provide plenty of starting power to the starter motor, esp in colder (winter) conditions.

Once the car has started, everything, including the sound system runs from the alternator.

Trade price on the 58MF has gone from $100 to $120. So I suggest a Exide orbital redtop if you can find one for ~$100.
