Crap reception

Hey lads and lasses

Am having a real issue with my reception. Is there such a thing as a wireless antenna booster or something of similar description? Like my standard radio for the aesthetic look....

2002 WRX. Aerial is in the glass and I am located in Auckland.

Band expander is installed, just seems extremely average reception wise!

what mhz is the band expander? i have sold boosters for holdens before which sit in between the aieral lead and the unit. im sure they must be able to work with subaru aswell. the one i supplied the customer had the euro style ends on it so just need to switch to jap ends

The glass antennas in WRX run an amplifier that needs to have 12V to amp the signal. The wire for this is located below the 12v+ wire in the loom at the stereo. It is usually a white or pink or blue wire. Check if this wire has power on it. If not you can cut it and connect it to the ACC wire (usually yellow/red or yellow/green) and that should sort it.

Try a proper (non Jap 76-90MHz) radio, and since you're in Aucks - look for one with RDS. The new Pioneer ones like DEH-6350SD or 8350SD are good options.

I've found the newer cars with amplified windscreen aerials to be a lot better than the older automatic up/down ones or the A-pillar pull-up types.

  • 2 weeks later...

Side note- would using a direct 12v power to your head unit (instead of via loom) increase volume and aerial signal / reception?

The car is a forester but this is the first time iv used a harness to loom setup versus a fused 12v straight from battery.

I mean if it doesn't get better, il just run all speakers off an amp instead of off the H.U

yeah clean power and ground feeds would generally help. the factory ones split thru many looms... even the ground wire commons to about 4 and is grounded somewhere along the loom. get the clean metal chassis directly behind headunit mounting and ground it there. use star washers and locking washers where possible.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
