Info on 2004 Legacy B4 GT

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

its been a while but I may be getting myself another Subaru. I'm looking for something a bit more quiet and comfortable than my current car (must be getting old) but still with a bit of power for passing etc. At the moment i'm looking at a Legacy B4 GT 2004.

Any thoughts on this car? Things to watch out for etc? I'm going to take it for a test drive tomorrow.

Thanks for any info.

Hmm ok.. Well i'm now looking at the 2004 Legacy 3.0R.. took it for a drive today, great to drive.

Questions - there's a Bilstein suspension badge on the back and an STi badge on the front. Are these fake?

Also how can I tell if it's the Spec B model? I'm having trouble finding info on Google.

Anything to watch out for with this model?

Cheers! :)

Spec B are all manual and have the 18" 10 spokes, I haven't seen one around the 3.0r's are far more common.

My 04 3.0R has Bilsteins, afaik all the Jap spec ones have them, if they are yellow? usually the best sign. Very nice cars, I love mine, yeah the torque from the H6 is great.

Downsides? gearbox is a little average, and can have a mind of its own at times, and they do drink a fair bit of gas around town. balances out with pretty good highway mileage though. Make sure you get an 04+ as they have the variable timing etc AVCS? head.

Its been said on here from guys in the know that they can be prone to drinking oil, mine doesn't and think its hit and miss but perhaps someone knows how to check for this problem apart from driving it for a month?

Oh, and if you care about sounds, either find one that has been converted to an after market headunit already, or a fully working McIntosh unit as converting the dash to double/single din isn't cheap.

calibre - just FWIW .. its either MY04 or 2003+ ;)

2004+ is incorrect as I have the later and it has AVCS

agree on the other points though, i found that either the 5speed auto/tip or the 6sp manual were the cog changers to go for, the 5sp manual was the least best.

I dont think you get a 5sp manual with the ez30r anyway so maybe moot point.

yeah the gearbox is definately not a deal breaker, I just don't think its as smooth in operation at times as some boxes out there, but it's by no means terrible. I find it perfoms best in 'Sport' auto mode when still allowed to self shift. (once touched goes into tiptronic mode and needs to be manually shifted)

Could anyone provide me with a bit of info on the car? I'm after chassis code, engine code, etc so I can Google some specs.

Wingers have it advertised as a 2005 Legacy 3.0R.. but Google comes up with lots of conflicting info when it comes to specs..

Much appreciated as usual :)

Looks like theres gonna be a few more additions to the Bl/BP5 club. I just bought a BL5 GT spec B pick it up on sunday...cant wait!

As far as difference with spec B is concerned, just some cosmetic things such as front lower lip, alloy pedals, 18" rims.

This in an interesting read to find out which options your car has compared to others as well as all the specs: http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic,7167.0.html

Also just purchased myself a BL Sedan Legacy GT spec B. Gone for a auto/tiptronic this time as getting sick of manuals in chch traffic at times!

Fantastic cars! I did have a twin turbo legacy couple years ago. Big improvement over that!

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
