6 speed gearbox oil change

75W-90 (multitrax?) - is that the right one to use?

i read over here that 4.7-4.8 litres is needed but will there be an issue if i fill the full 5 litres?

should i raise the car in the front (or any particular side?) to better drain the old oil?

is there a filter of sorts that i need to change at the gbox oil change and if so then where is the filter loccated?

hmm anything else to know before doing this?

Did mine awhile ago, there are 2 drain bungs and one is under a plastic cover so make sure you undo both, I think mine took 4.1l but I honestly can't remember so do double check on that, also the filler hole is a pain to reach if you don't take off the inter cooler. I left my inter cooler on and attached some garden hose to the end of a funnel and that seemed to be the best way. I put in nulon 75w-90 in mine.

did u keep measuring using the dipstick at certain intervals?

One is a big bolt which is extremely obvious and 90% of the oil comes out of this, the other one is slightly further forward (closer to engine) unfortunately am out of town so can't take a photo of it, I just filled it up with the amount in he repco book then checked the level and it was fine. I'll try source a picture of the other drain bung.

Other drain is just behind main one, not in front like I said before.

Went to super cheap and saw castrol multitrax 80w 90

Says good for Subaru on bottle

Wil that b ok for 6speed

Only other options were

Nulon 75w90 and valvoline 75w90

Anyone used either o them ??

6 spd has the slippery diff up front so require diferent to the 5mts

Recently had mine changed not long ago. I used Motul Motyl Gear 75W-90. Takes approximately 4 litres.

If you're feeling rich, Motul Gear 300 is the other option (full synthetic), but pretty damn pricey.

yeah i replaced my with the cheap crap ones from Repco... its over due for a change its over a year now.

the thing about the better ones is that it dont smell like cat piss as the cheap one do, im planning to keep my 6spd in good condition so only feed it with the best wine i can get! hehe

Nulon is expensive for the synthetic but well worth it. I had the 80w-90 in my gearbox but changed it within 500kms because it was so much rougher then what was in the gearbox before. Wasnt shocking if you are on a budget but generally in the cold mornings wasnt that friendly down shifting into second or into first. Do it once and do it right is what I learnt haha

Yep Redline will sell it as well. I got mine from Speedtech which is essentially the Redline store in Wellington.

I use Castrol Syntrax 75w90 Pappu, stupidly expensive now days but good stuff! Repco sells it.... @ 42.99 per 1L lol and they dont make a 4L

done it yesterday night (damm rain in the way)

filling was rather easier than i expected

had a vented funnel setup

What dealer is that? Like wingers or?? Cus that would be great lol. One of my friends works at repco and I even made him ring their supplier and try get a hold of a 4 or 5L pack and they told him they dont come in 4-5L anymore. I wast like wtf so just suffered and paid up, not retail atleast but was till a good bit more the $103 for the 5 of them
