Unplugging the knock sensor

mite be wrong but i think its code 22. i know if the knock sensors stuffed, you get a code. would imagine you would get a code if you unplug it though. agree with subieboy, better just to replace it. codes are a pain in the ass, especially if your car starts going into limp mode :/

does the knock sensor failing cause the car to go into limp mode?

If it's failing, it might send the wrong signal's to the ECU, tricking it to think there is det when there isn't, so timings are pulled to compensate and eliminate the det and then limp mode.

wrxonp doesn't use his so would that mean he has changed something in his ecu so it wouldn't throw any codes when it got taken out?

He doesn't have a Subaru, unless he was talking about his last Subaru then you'd have to ask him.

Maybe he added a resistor to trick the ECU into thinking the knock sensor was there. But why would you want to do this, I don't know.

just buy a new one. they're cheap as even from the stealer. Seeing as you have the manifold off, it's the perfect time to do it, better that than unplug it, put the mani back on, and then find yourself in code 22 hell.

Wow I feel famous

I've allways used knock sensors on my Subarus - I'm all against the whole relocation mod as well -

I did how ever run no knock sensor on my 180sx sr20det - after replacing sensors - replacing wiring and resetting ecu I could not get it to stay off knock maps - so I used a 1 k ohm resistor so the ecu thought the knock sensor was there and that it was not detecting knock

Its all fine and dandy and is safe as long as its definitely not getting det - but the minute something happens - be it bad fuel or advanced timing - its just gonba knock it self to pieces

Btw I only did it as a last resort as after months of trying to fix the problem it was the only way I could get it working and stay sane

In saying that however - early links do not run a separate map for it to switch to when the knock sensor sees a specific value

And with newer links it's purely upto the Tuner if he even uses the knock sensor - some tuners do and some don't

But to stay safe and save your motor it's easier to jut replace knock sensor

"Forums are a drift net for stupid ideas. Sure, you'll get one or two people who actually give a sane suggestion, but t...hen you'll hit all the dolphins - the people who, because they've been asked to contribute feel that they have to contribute - like it's an intelligence test or something. Only they've got nothing useful to contribute, so they start off on some unrelevant tangent"

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
