AFM tuning question..

Miller

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Im about to get my car (Version 9 Sti, for those who dont know it) tuned for the new turbo etc, and have a couple of questions..

I am going to get Gary Capper to do the tuning, and he uses a rom on the factory ecu. Now he said with this rom you dont need an air flow sensor.

But you need to keep it in the intake pipe, so he can use the air intake temp sensor on it..

Unless I can rig up a suitable air intake temp sensor somewhere else..

My question is, has anyone out there done something similar.. As I dont want to run the factory afm in the 4" intake pipe..

Can I run one in the intake manifold? Does it have to be anything specific?

Cheers

David

yes you can your tuner should be able to put one in easy ??? . there around $100 for the sensor .

only thing is you need to drill and tap it in the manifold . are you running a top mount ? if so drill and tap it into there because you can remove it to flush it after drilling.

Ah yea sweet.. Um well he just said to leave the afm in and use that one, but kinda dont want to run it, rather get a new one and run it in the manifold.

Where do you get them from? I have the intake manifold out at the momnet, so getting one tapped into that is no problem, although I am no longer running a pcv valve, so if I could find one to screw into that, would be even better haha

Cheers

Also the closer to the inlet valves the better...actual temp being measured not an average.

Gary is correct...As usual

you do realize that what you said is the opposite of what was suggested to Miller by Gary ???

Gary suggested that Miller keep his AFM so they could use the air temp sensor which is even before the turbo >> that is the furthest point from the intake valves

you're saying "the closer to the inlet valves the better"

last thread about this i asked about it pre turbo but no one thought it was the best idea? i knew id seen it before.

pre turbo won't measure the true air temperature that is going into the champers, it'll measure the ambient air temperature

As the air go thru the inter-cooler, the air will get colder and thus why you wanna have the air temperature measured as close as possible to the intake. But also not to put it in a place where there would be lots of heat soak as that might affect the readings

yea thats what i thought so why would using the stock maf be recommended? Im not a tuner and a simple soul but doesnt make complete sense.

6 years workin on tractors?............try 40 as an engineer......dumbdumbdumbdumbdumbdumb

sorry to interrupt the thread but instead of nailing people go post on the whos who on club sub and fess up to who you really are and qualifications and going by your past posts which wouldn't hold water/steam don't get cocky we can dig plenty of holes in your posts that weren't to intelligent.

Now as a rough calc a engineer off some sort for 40 yrs allowing for birth and start an apprenticeship at say 15-18 you would have to be in your 60's and going by your lack of respect for people its time you retired.

And by the way putting a air temp sensor closer to the intake is dumb ass the heat soak is massive before the t/b and after the cooler is the norm might pay to do some night classes your 40 yrs hasn't taught you much.

ah mmm........I did say as close to intake valves as possible!!....NEVER PUT A SENSOR FOR AIR TEMP IN THE INTAKE PRE TURBO!!.......Although this can be done....It will not be accurate!!

Read before you attack!!...55years young!! 40 +15 =?...Not 60

55 going on 10.......at-least mentally

and its very clear why you don't fess up to who you are in the clubsub who's who and i dought you would tell the truth based on your replies then again i dought anyone would care anymore

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
