SORTED - Sticking clutch and starting fresh engine? Engine swap dilemmas

Guest

Recommended Posts

So Ive just dropped a new engine in and my clutch is sticking on the floor then it pops out really hard. I havent removed the slave or touched anything other than pushing it in to get the fork out. The spring is on the fork too.

Also any special trick to starting an engine up for the first time? Its been apart and had new rings etc. Do you just crank it over with no spark like a turbo to get the juices flowing? Ive filled the filter and dropped oil in.

Any ideas? Finishing the last few things atm so need to know now preferably :D

At my workshop we just give it a few cranks then start for about maybe 30 seconds then turn off check oil levels, fill to required level then turn on and keep an eye on water levels(remember to bleed the water) check for leaks etc etc.

try bleeding the slave mine did that with my engine swap just bleed the slave and adjusted the clutch pedal and now shes good as gold.

Figured thats what to do with starting it just wanted to be sure there wasnt any other special little things. Ive only ever swapped in wet engines not rebuilds.

Yea you push the clutch in and it sticks on the floor so you have to pop it off with your toe or if you wait 10sec or so it pops up by itself with a helluva thud.

Will get it started tonight then have a nosy at the clutch I thought it might need bleeding but didnt know why coz I never removed it or anything.

Its V5 wrx

My clutch pedal got stuck on the floor when the engine and clutch fluid got hot. Wasn't sure if this was your issue after rebuild or not. Anyway, removed top mount, and bleed at bottom point. PITA, but removed really old fluid, and it's not stuck on floor since.

Well got a mate to help me bleed the clutch he turned up and then took off to get fluid. In the meantime I whipped off the starter, pulled the pin and pulled the fork out and played with the thrust bearing till it seemed to sit right. Bolted it up as mate walked back through the door and worked fine. Yet to take it for a drive but seems good. Gotasuby you get the fluffy purple carrot.

  • 2 weeks later...

if you havent fixed clutch problem youll have to bleed buddy.

best way some push clutch flat to floor and release nipple to remove air from line then tighten back up and get other person to lift up slowly.REPEAT till clutch feels better

if still to much play in clutch after doing above get other to push clutch pedal to floor release nipple on back of clutch slave put a pinch bar between clutch fork and engine lever clutch for to push back this will get rid of any excess air stuck in slave. tightn niple and get other to pull clutch back up slowly this will make clutch feel alot better pm if have any queries

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
