Whats the Best 6spd manual to get?

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would ask this as a matter of intrest :)

Whats the Best 6spd manual to get?

I know they are fitted to V7s, V8s, V9, V10, V11

The later 2004ish? Legacy

What would be the best one to use in a Track car?

What one be the best for a rally car if theres a difference to the above question.

Is Spec C 6spd closer ratio etc?

Is a DCCD 6spd better to use on a track/race car or is it better to use a non DCCD 6spd?

The only difference gearing wise looks like a switch to a higher 5th and 6th at some stage. They appear to all run the same final (3.9). The ones with DCCD come in automatic and manual flavours, but perhaps it is just the controller that differentiates them. There seems to be four combinations of center/front diff; viscous/open, viscous/Suretrac, DCCD/Suretrac, and DCCD/Helical LSD. The splits also changed from 45/55 to 35/65 somewhere along the line, and there are a couple with external transmission coolers which would have to be good for track work.

Here is a table reproduced from Cath and Ken's page

The 2006 boxes have a revised synchro for 4th 5th 6th. Eliminates the problem that BT, Tony and I are having/had. (Crunches every time into 5th)

How did you go about fixing that problem? can the later 2006+ synchro be used to fix that problem?

Thanks :)

the earlier 6speeds (V7 and V8) superceed the 1st and 2nd gear when replacing the synchros, so can be an expensive exercise.

the ver10 6speeds transfer has a different ratio. this means the front diff is 3.9 and the rear is a 3.454.

spec c gearboxes (depending on model option) had a front facing gearbox oil cooler built into the radiator, so those boxes came with the cooler pipes along the side.

some gearboxes had dccd centre while others had a viscous centre diff

if i was to go for a 6 speed i would source a ver 9 spec c (like the one i have hey hey)

the only thing i can say is the 6 speeds have got some serious durability..

i did several (think a dozen ;) although the official story is less than half that number) 8krpm launch in a 210kw@wheel v7 and the box didnt even flich - lol even broke the drive shafts in pieces..

did that to my old rex ages back which was pulling around the same power at that time and the first launch = a trip to the gearbox store.. >:(

(have learnt my lesson in not launching in that fashion any more since them early days.. :D )

in summary - i think whichever one u get should be good although as mentioned above the later ones do have a revised design..

on a related topic - a while back i was discussing rwd with some D1 guys and the GDB D1 car - that ran a v7 6 speed with no issues what so ever!! that should be an indication even the v7 6 speeds are up there..

disclaimer - early morning suger rush causing ramblings ...

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
