EJ204 explain please

Hi all!

I\'ve been trying to get to bottom of this for quite a while now...

What is sooo special about EJ204 JDM (also sold in NZ) that it makes 190hp???

I have UK BL5 2.0R which is supposed to be 165hp.

It really does my head in. What is the mechanical difference between them?

EJ204 DOHC naturally aspirated AVCS
  • Legacy JDM BL - BP series 2003-2009 190 hp (140 kW)

Impreza JDM GC - GF series

  • 1993-1999 155 hp (116 kW)

about all I can help (I was curious what the 204 was actually in)

I\'m going to go on a limb and suggest the AVCS bit helps (which didn\'t feature in the 93-99 Imp\'s)

I have to say I am puzzled. Have been searching for quite a while now.

Managed to set that:

This motor was used in Legacy and Impreza SRX

Depending on year and transmission it develops 180-190hp

Has AVCS and 11.5:1 CR

You can find cars with that lump in Japan, Russia, New Zeland (not sure where else, but I don\'t know Japanese nor Russian)

I tried Wiki, TradeCarView, GooExchange, found links to JDM brochures here somewhere

Wiki and local dealer aren\'t really usefull.

What seems to be a fact.

EJ204 (MT) revs up to 7100, is 190hp and 200Nm, DOHC, AVCS

What I thought it is

Dual AVCS, WRX internals

What I suspect

Different inlet manifold, ECU, head or piston design

Prob same sort of stuff that seperates - for arguments\' sake - a "Beams" 3SGE motor from a standard one - or any number of other "upgraded" n/a motors

Higher than normal comp (and a high octane diet being required), fancy valve timing, different ECU tune, higher rev limit than the norm, lighter insides (not turbo model bits generally)

Pure guesswork here, I has no idea what the actual story would be but imagine you\'d be beating yourself and your wallet up trying to substitute the applicable bits onto a non JDM motor

On top of that You can add Cllio 192, Type R and S2000.

My car is EDM Legacy 06 2.0R imported to UK from Malta hence no data in UK dealership.

+1 on climate. I read this guy\'s post about tuning and living in high moutains and his hp was like 98 or something silly

But have to disagree on fuel:

JP low octane is 89RON premium is 96RON according to Wiki

GB low octane is 95RON premium is 97RON also You can get Shell Vpower 99RON (Iuse it)

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket. 
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.
