Exsactly, pull the Neg lead from the battery, stand on the brakes for 20 seconds and leave off for 30-45mins should clear ECU memory. Then let us know if the fault comes back again.

Ive herd that theory around but standing on the brakes doesn\'t do anything as the ECU has its own in board capacitor which is there to hold memory plus keep SRS system activated, brake lights don\'t tie into this at all.

Spoon was right 0340 crank sensor. Major problem is it?

Nope he went cam lol. Easy fix if its just the sensor.

Are the cam and crank same as each other as in swappable to check them?

remove the connector plugs - clean

also clean sensor while there

then also clean the loom plug by the strut tower on drivers side (is there oil in it?)

check all wiring make sure no splits etc <-- important

replace sensor

(in that order)

seen thins a fair few times hence the guess..

seems to be a common v7/8 issue from the logs i have done

yet to see a crank angle sensor issue tho ..they seem to be reliable outta the lot for some reason..unsure if the same..can check next time see it...

i think p0340 which the code was is the drivers side, so would just be in the same position on the other side?

The cam sensor is under the oil filler

Thowever the cam angle sensors (2 of them - one for each inlet cam) are mounted at the rear or each cylinder head - just above the inlet camshafts

These secondary sensors are used to monitor the AVCS system ( variable cam timing )

Suspect that the sensor hasnt failed - and the issue will be oil in the engine harness connector on the drivers side

There\'s a thread here somewhere re- AVCS sensors - they "pump" oil through the loom and you end up with engine oil in your ECU !

i checked the 2 plugs by the boost solenoid and they were all clean and no oil in it. i take it the cam angle sensors are hard to get to? i had a quick look but wasnt to sure it was

there not easy - and if you also have tumble generator valves in the intake then its even worse

the one under the oil filler is easy to get to you its right in front of you not sure bout the other side thoughbut if its in the same place just the removal of the intake bbefore the MAF would get it

AVCS cam sensors are at the REAR of the cylinder heads above the inlet cam

Start with the cam sensor by oil filler as that one is easy to get to and cheap to replace

Many times that has been the issue

If that still is an issue then get to the ones on the head which are a bit harder to get to

That makes perfect sense if the ecu is throwing a code for another sensor lol

have had that sensor code and ended up replacing cam sensor on head and that sorted it

very wierd i thought but thats been the case on 2 other cars i have seen

but mostly has been oil/wiring loom dirt or front cam sensor replacement that fixed it
