1996 version 3 STI Bottom End Bearing Cost??

Hi guys, just a quick Q!

I\'m looking at a decent low kms WRX (apart from bearing) and wondering roughly how much would it cost to replace a Bottom end bearing, and also any other preventative maintenance that could be done at the same time.

Thanks in advance ;)

Uh no I meant read the thread and post up a link to the car youre looking at. Rebuilding an engine does not need to cost 4k. Besides after rebuilding the bottom end you already need head gaskets and valve stem seals are bother all each so hardly 4k. If youre dunedin like the name suggests pm hijacka he\'ll sort you out cheap. IMO just get a v7 sti shortie. Stronger than what you had and cheaper than fixing what you have considering you will likely possibly new crank/rods/pistons along with the obvious bearings/gaskets/etc. The forged shortie that FFS have for 2.9k is a mint option if you want a bulletproof street engine. Or 1-1.5k for a v7 sti shortie.

2.9k for a shortie yes. ;) Then 1.1 to remove old motor/heads refit heads and engine. Reasonable cost of ? $4k. Yes sounds about right. :D

Yep forged 4k+, just rebuilt no way maybe if a shop did the entire job hijacka would prob do it cheaper. Unless timmah means forged not just rebuilt? Drop the engine yourself and put it back in. If I can do it by myself anyone can Im not a mechanic/practical person at all. All you need to do is get heads checked/skimmed by a reconditioner, read up on timing and give someone a box to check it before you release the auto tensioner. Might as well do timing while youre in there Id use jap or genuine parts or a mix to save coin just long as its not chinese and its got a decent warranty. Often aftermarket has a longer warranty than genuine so ask questions...

I was meaning a normal rebuild. If you set aside more than you need, you\'ll leave yourself with money and not short if the engine is in worse condition than just a BeB that has gone.

Unless you\'re planning on leaning on the motor orrrr keeping it for a few years I\'d just buy a trustworthy complete motor, chuck it in, rinse and walk away

Hell if you get a complete-ish one you can then sell off turbo & random bits and recoup some of the $ afterwards - not like anyone reeeeeally pays attention to if/when a subaru has had a rebuild when it comes to resale time, they die at random intervals anyway

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
